If you've always wanted to give pottery a go but weren't sure where to begin, this ceramics experience in Kettering would make a brilliant starting point. Under the watchful eye of experienced potter Louise, you'll take to the wheel as you learn the techniques to throw your own earthenware mug or bowl.
In this serene pottery experience, you'll learn each step of the process at your own pace, using white earthenware clay to build your own unique vessel. Don't worry if this is your first time trying pottery, as you'll have help and guidance from Louise throughout the session. She'll show you the proper way to use the wheel as you shape, mould and guide your clay to its final form.
Everything you need will be provided on the day, so you just need to show up and enjoy two hours of creative zen. You'll leave the class happy, creatively refreshed and eagerly awaiting your piece's return from the kiln.

  • 5/5 from Sarah Burwell, attended Sep 2026: I've always wanted to try pottery & I chose Louise's class as it was local. I had a wonderful morning! Louise is so friendly and welcoming and puts you at ease straight away. There were four if us in the class, using two potters wheels. This was perfect as it gave us time to watch & absorb the information whilst the other person was working with the clay at the wheel. Louise offered advice & encouragement throughout the morning and explained everything clearly. I had no expectations of being able to make anything useful, but actually made a bowl and a utensil pot, which I was delighted with! I've booked another session to paint my items, as I enjoyed it so much! Thank you Louise, it was a real treat to meet you and watch you work!

  • 5/5 from James, attended Feb 2026: Birthday present for my wife. We had a great time. Louise is a very inspirational teacher and gave step by step instructions throughout. • 5/5 from Sky Gillett, attended Jan 2026: Thank you Louise, we had a brilliant time and all somehow produced beautiful pieces! Brilliant experience
  • 5/5 from Clive Thorley, attended Jan 2026: I was given this as birthday present, by my partner. I tried my hand at slab-built pottery at adult classes in the late '80s for around 3 years at Tresham collage, but never got the opportunity to try the potter's wheel. Louise made us feel very welcome, and explained at the start how the session would go and what she hopped we'd get out of it. There were four people booked in the class, which was just right. To be able to have made a mug and a bowl by the end of the two hours was brilliant and a testament to Louise's teaching.
  • 5/5 from Karen Squires, attended Jan 2026: A really lovely and relaxing way to spend a Saturday morning. I loved it. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Ellie Butterworth, attended Jan 2026: We had the most wonderful pottery session with Louise! Her knowledge is incredible, and she explains each technique so clearly while making the whole experience relaxed and fun. She has the patience of a saint — especially while watching us enthusiastically make many creative “learning opportunities” on the wheel . Louise took the time to get to know us, which instantly put us at ease and made the session feel personal and welcoming. She taught us a variety of techniques and encouraged us every step of the way, no matter how wonky things got. And let’s not forget the coffee — genuinely the best coffee ever! A perfect mix of learning, laughter, and creativity. Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Emily Charter, attended Jan 2026: Absolutely fantastic morning! Cannot reccomend Louise enough. Such a brilliant teacher, so informative. Venue was perfect nice, warm and cosy whilst the weather was terrible outside. Thank you for a brilliant morning cannot wait to go back and paint my pots!
  • 5/5 from Alice Ireland, attended Dec 2025: What a lovely way to spend a few hours. My only gripe is that the time flew by so quickly. Louise was welcoming, knowledgeable and encouraging. The studio space was perfect, with calming music and the right temperature. We were blessed to be visiting on a crisp winters day with the sunlight flooding in through the windows. The pottery itself resulted in two functional pieces which I've decided to paint, so I will be revisiting the studio soon for an additional cost. It was something I'd wanted to do for a long time, and taking that first step into the world of throwing with the expert guidance of Louise was perfect. Whilst mildly intimidated by the amount of information, it sparked a dream inside me. I can't wait to do it again.
  • 5/5 from Karen Patterson, attended Dec 2025: We had a very enjoyable lesson, perfectly balanced and fun. A good mix of pupils and very clearly instructed.
  • 5/5 from Ruth Atkinson, attended Dec 2025: A fantastic two hours of pottery with Louise in her fab studio. I treated my friend to the class as her birthday present & thanks to Louise’s great tuition & guidance we both, even as nervous novices, made two pieces we were really pleased with! Thanks Louise!
  • 5/5 from Tracy Brown, attended Oct 2025: Thank you Louise. We have just have a lovely afternoon celebrating my husband’s 50th birthday by throwing a couple of pots and a bowl, a fabulous way to make a life memory together, everything was lovely including the couple of bird ornaments we brought as an extra reminder of the day, can’t wait to collect our pottery soon and hope to see you at the makers market next month in Kettering, kind regards Tracy and Peter.xx
  • 5/5 from Judith Townsend, attended Oct 2025: Louise was very friendly, teaching absolute novices to throw a small bowl on a pottery wheel, with patience and tact. The room was light and welcoming. The lesson flowed easily and our attention was engaged all of the time. I really enjoyed the session.
  • 5/5 from Angela Williams, attended Oct 2025: Absolutely loved this morning, Louise is such a warm and patient teacher
  • 5/5 from Linda Drew, attended Sep 2025: What a wonderful afternoon making a mug and a bowl as a beginner. Louise was a fantastic teacher. Would highly recommend as a new experience. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Bridget Lapworth, attended Sep 2025: I had a brilliant afternoon at the pottery! Louise was very welcoming and made us all feel at ease, she is very passionate and knowledgeable about her craft. There were only three of us so we had plenty of one to one tuition with Louise which was great. I made a mug and a bowl and I cannot wait to go back and decorate them. This is something I've always wanted to try and it didn't disappoint. I'd recommend going to one Louise's classes, I shall definitely do it again in the future.
  • 5/5 from June Morton, attended Sep 2025: I absolutely loved it great experience lovely lovely lady made you feel very comfortable and welcoming and I managed to make 2 pieces thank you Louise x
  • 5/5 from Jemma Jackman-Howard, attended Aug 2025: My sister and I booked the wheel throwing class and loved every moment! Louise instantly put us at ease with her amazing spirit and passion for pottery. The Venue was easy to find and it was a small class so at no point did we feel like we weren’t getting Louise’s full attention. We were able to make both a mug and bowl for an extra £5 which was totally worth it. Louise also took loads of photos and videos of our experience to share with our family and friends which was a nice touch. Would recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn something different and have a nice wholesome morning.
  • 5/5 from Karen Pratt, attended Aug 2025: Louise is very passionate and enthusiastic about teaching what she clearly loves, pottery. Had a great morning, inspired to do more. Thank you so much, fabulous meeting you. X
  • 5/5 from Lisa Howkins, attended Aug 2025: Louise was wonderful from the moment we arrived, her knowledge is amazing and she kept us all engaged throughout the whole session, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an introduction to pottery and will definitely be back!
  • 5/5 from Andy Wale, attended Aug 2025: Louise is very patient and informative. We had private tuition which catered for all of our different needs. We enjoyed making a cup and a bowl from scratch. Would recommend to anyone who would like to either start their pottery journey or just to have a try at a potters wheel! Many thanks again Louise.
  • 5/5 from Sophie Donald, attended Jul 2025: Great teacher - fun and easy to talk to and we both learnt a lot. We made 2 mugs and 2 bowls which was extremely fun. Hello, I’m Louise
I adore leading pottery experiences, passing on pottery skills to other people. Clay is infectious!
I did a degree in Ceramics at Loughborough in the late 1980s and then had community arts roles and a pottery business in my 20's and 30's. After a career in children's services and growing my family I'm now full time in the pottery.
My dad, Rodney, was a brilliant bird artist, and both he and my mum found ways to encourage my artistic nature. They supported me in everything I did. Aged 13, I had a day with a local potter and was hooked on the clay.
When I started out in Ceramics in the 1990's the internet was just an idea, but with the help of my adult children I've grown my online presence and enjoy customer interactions both in person and over social media.
I also head out to in person markets all over the country in the festive run up. Pop by and say hello!
I have a beautiful workshop which is bright and spacious, so the perfect commute down the garden path and the big pine table which is the hub of activity great for gathering with others who want to learn the craft or chatting to friends and neighbours as I make.
