What you'll do
Learn how to make a functional and attractive trug-style basket in our basket weaving workshop for beginners. This is a project that introduces the basics of frame basket making, including attaching the frame to the ribs, weaving, and adding a handle. You can choose to make a basket with an over handle or side handles.The baskets are made with a combination of UK-grown willow and foraged materials. When it is finished, it is ready for use in the garden!Mary's supportive, relaxed teaching style will guide you through the various stages of making your basket. You will gain an understanding of how the willow behaves as you weave, and after the final trimming up, you will have a useful basket you will be proud to take home. You will learn about the simple tools that are used in basketry and some basic weaving patterns that can be applied to a wide range of baskets in the future.This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with more experience. All tools and materials will be provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a bit grubby.PLEASE NOTE: If there is no availability for the date you would like to book, please message me, and I may be able to open more spaces.

We are a creative studio based in Staple Hill offering a wide range of craft courses, classes and workshops from sewing, dressmaking, stained glass, printmaking, upholstery, crochet, weaving and much more. Our classes run 7 days a week and we have activities for adults and kids during the day and evening. Why not learn a new skill or improve one you already have at a one of our exciting workshops? Our studio space is also available to hire.
