6 hours Class size 1 to 4     label £95

Explore the wonderful world of watercolour art with talented artist John Horton and capture the beauty of the countryside in spring through delightful watercolour washes.

This is a full day of learning how to paint with watercolours in an intimate group of four other budding artists. Art supplies and a light lunch will be provided, as well as step-by-step guidance from John in a relaxed atmosphere.

Kick off the day with tea, coffee and chat before heading into the studio to start the watercolour painting class. You'll begin on this spring farm artwork by following John's composition process before laying down a succession of washes.

Learn about painting techniques like wet-into-wet and how to experiment with a limited palette of three colours. You'll then finish off the piece by painting with contrast, shadows, and tone adjustment to bring it to life.

By the end of this workshop, you will walk away with your hand-painted spring landscape and a host of new skills!

I have always held a great passion for the natural history world. This is reflected in my work as well as being an active member of The Wildlife Art Society International. I am pleased to have won many awards, such as the Christopher Parsons Award for artistic excellence in 2003, 2010, and 2011 at their annual exhibition held at Nature in Art, Twigworth, Gloucestershire. More recently in 2016, I won the Two Rivers Sketchbook prize at the Association of Animal Artists annual exhibition.

In my classes, I hope to share some of the skills and techniques that I have developed over many years.
