This workshop in Brighton brings together a complete Gongfu-style Chinese tea ceremony and a traditional calligraphy session. It’s a thoughtful way to celebrate Chinese New Year through culture, mindful sensory exploration, and creative expression, offering a calm, enriching experience rooted in centuries-old traditions.
The session begins with a short grounding mini sound bath to help you settle into the space. No prior experience with tea ceremonies or calligraphy is needed. Everything is introduced gently and clearly, with step-by-step guidance throughout. The small group size and relaxed pace make this a welcoming space to slow down, ask questions, and enjoy learning without pressure.

  • A full Gongfu-style Chinese tea ceremony, featuring a selection of three premium teas across different tea types, tasted through multiple infusions.
  • Learn how flavours, aromas, and effects change with each brew.
  • An introduction to Gongfu tea tools, movements, and their cultural symbolism.
  • Stories and historical context woven into the tea experience.
  • A guided introduction to traditional Chinese calligraphy.
  • Exploring the meaning and origins of a Chinese character, from ancient pictograph to modern form.
  • Learning basic brush handling and foundational strokes.
  • Creating a framed calligraphy artwork to take home!

I’m Claire, a yoga instructor, sound healing and massage practitioner, artist and musician, and the founder of Flying Bear House in Brighton & Hove. After a fast-paced career in corporate and finance, I stepped away to slow down and reconnect with practices that supported my wellbeing. My sessions blend cultural ritual with gentle sensory awareness, offering a calm and accessible way to experience tea, sound and traditional craft. Everything is guided at a steady pace, inviting presence, connection and ease through simple, shared experience.
