This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

Recent reviews of One-to-one Sewing Workshop

  • 5/5 from Linda Manley, attended Oct 2026: Hannah was patient kind and informative and s a complete beginner left me with confidence to practice my sewing skills
  • 5/5 from Jonathan Sherlock, attended Aug 2026: Our daughter (9) has asked for a sewing machine for her upcoming birthday so we booked a lesson for her to try out the machine and ensure she could get started. The lesson was ideal as Becky covered all the key skills needed, including the functions of the machine and working on different sewing techniques. She was very engaging and patient, and our daughter is now even more excited for her birthday.
  • 5/5 from Kate Walker, attended Jul 2026: Hannah was lovely. She was really patient and explained everything clearly. She let me try out the different techniques and I feel ready to try for myself. Apparently I can get points for leaving a review, but I would leave one anyway because she was so good
  • 5/5 from Hayley Hollingsworth, attended Jul 2026: The one to one session was a really useful introduction to basic machine sewing. As a complete beginner, being walked through the process of setting up the machine and being able to record the process is invaluable. My instructor also gave me lots of useful tips and helped me to identify which additional sewing equipment I did/didn’t need at this point. I was given plenty of time to practise what I’d learnt and feel much more confident now. The session was definitely worth it! Thank you.
  • 5/5 from Belle, attended Feb 2026: I came into this workshop knowing nothing about sewing. Hannah was extremely kind and helpful and I’ve come away with all of the basic knowledge I need to get me further. The entire workshop I wasn’t very talkative and didn’t ask many questions, but Hannah was still able to find something to chat about or show me. I would 100% recommend this for someone learning how to sew.

  • 5/5 from Laura Goh, attended Dec 2024: Hanna was lovely and brilliant at showing my daughter how the sewing machine worked. The session was really relaxed and my daughter was able to really take on the information with no distractions. Hanna was great at making us feel comfortable and able to take on all the information. • 5/5 from Jean Gauden-Wells, attended Oct 2024: Had lovely hour, the young lady was very professional and patient, she explain everything I needed to know and gave gave me great advice on what machine to buy and thread, would recommend
  • 5/5 from Marion Stallard, attended Jul 2024: I attended a lesson because I could not get my sewing machine to work. I believe that my teacher was Hannah, though I stand to be corrected on that., who was very patient. She taught me more than I expected in one lesson, as I have problems retaining information, and was very clear and concise. The most important thing that I learned was how to thread the machine properly, and how to load and install the bobbin correctly, and the machine worked as it should. There was time to teach me the various settings on my machine and for me to practice sewing following a demonstration or two.
  • 5/5 from Shania, attended Jun 2024: Omg this workshop was amazing! Beth was so great at explaining everything and I really enjoyed it! Managed to get my machine working at home when I thought it wouldn't! Would HIGHLY recommend
  • 5/5 from Hazel Bexon, attended May 2024: I really enjoyed the workshop with Hannah. She showed me how to set up and use various feet on my sewing machine. I was particularly interested in the button hole and walking foot. Very easy to understand and she let me use the machine to have a practice. Helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks
  • 5/5 from Tim Cotterill, attended Apr 2024: Hannah was amazing. Showing me everything to do with my new sewing machine. I’m booking again for next Sunday with my own machine

  • 5/5 from Mrs. Anne Francis, attended Mar 2024: Really liked the teacher Hanna wrote a lot of useful information things because Unfortunately, I couldn't see much as it's due to me being an invalid and couldn't see much that day as I had a bad day. She did what she could to teach me and put references on UTube Which was very kind. My problem is I don't know when I will see well or have a very bad back. Was learning HOBBYCRAFT 12s sewing machine
  • 5/5 from Helen, attended Jan 2024: Hannah was amazing. She really is very experienced and it shows how much she loves sewing. She was very good with our 10 year old teaching her in a way that made sense. She carnt wait till go back to find hannah in the shop one day to show her something she has made.
  • 5/5 from Amanda Durward, attended Jan 2024: My tutor was amazing explained every clearly so i could understand and she was able to identify the problem i was having and quickly resolved it, im definitely going to be booking future lesson super happy ️
  • 5/5 from Ami Humphries, attended Nov 2023: Hanna in Telford was brilliant with me and my son who has asd I can wait for the lesson she was so helpful and showed us how to make a bag thank Hanna
  • 4/5 from Melanie Jane, attended Jul 2023: My tutor, Hannah, was absolutely brilliant. She really knew her way around a sewing machine! I have a new sewing machine, but have no idea how to use it. Hannah used a similar store model to show me what all the different buttons, switches and dials do, how to thread it so it sews rather than tangles, and answered all my questions. The reason I've deducted a star is because in both the session booking information and confirmation email it was stated that i SHOULD NOT bring my sewing machine along as one would be provided. At the beginning of the session I was told that I SHOuLD have brought my machine along. That makes sense- why learn about one model when the one I had at home is very different?! I think the booking information should be amended to state this.
  • 5/5 from Cheryl Pugh, attended Feb 2023: Thoroughly enjoyed the Sewing 1-2-1 Workshop. I went as a complete beginner, everything was covered, with plenty of practical and great tips. I left with so much more confidence. Extremely friendly and relaxed, would definitely recommend.

  • 5/5 from Jade Benton, attended Nov 2022: Hannah was excellent. She really made me feel comfortable and didn’t laugh at any of my stupid questions. It was so nice to feel more confident about sewing.
  • 5/5 from Michelle Anderson, attended Nov 2022: The workshop was for my daughter. The teacher was very approachable and kind, gave some really good advice and took my daughter through the basics in detail but also tailored the workshop slightly to my daughters interests in dress making. Great value for money!

  • 5/5 from Ann Allen, attended Jun 2022: Excellent one to one workshop. The teacher was great and very knowledgeable. She was able to show me how to thread my own sewing machine and wind thread on the bobbin even though the demonstration model was different. She gave me some great advice and tips and tailored the session to exactly what I wanted. I was able to practice on the machine and left feeling a lot more confident about my future sewing projects. I would highly recommend the workshop and would definitely book onto another one if I need more advanced help.
  • 5/5 from Rattana Titley, attended Oct 2021: I really enjoyed my first time sewing workshops at Hobbycraft. It was my first time learning how to sew with my sewing machine. Hannah was very helpful and friendly. She helped explaining everything I need to know to start using my machine. At the end of the session, I felt confident to use my machine and managed to sew a simple pattern I need for my felt story project. I was provided with a worksheet and the material I need for this session. At the end of the session, Hannah also showed me all the essential accessories for my machine and projects. I would definitely go back to have more lessons for other projects I need.
