Visible Mending Workshop

Bring your worn or damaged clothing to this creative repair workshop!

3 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests       £30 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Bring an item from your mending pile and enjoy learning how to make it wearable again. Whether it’s a jumper, socks, jeans or another repairable garment, I’ll help you find a creative, hand-stitched solution. Natural fibres are usually the easiest to mend.
I’ll provide darning and embroidery threads, sashiko templates, patching fabric and buttons, and show you how to use them to bring new life to your pre-loved clothes. I also bring plenty of experience, encouragement and enthusiasm for repairing rather than buying new.
The workshop content will be shaped by the group’s needs. With classes limited to five people, I’ll give each attendee as much individual support as possible to get started on their repair and offer advice on any items you do not have time to finish during the session. You’ll also be able to take away enough materials to complete your mends at home.
Simply bring the clothing or textile item you’d like to repair. All other materials, along with refreshments, will be provided.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave with new skills, a repaired garment and the satisfaction of having given something a longer life. Private and one-to-one sessions are also available for those who would prefer a more personalised experience. Please note that my friendly Labrador may be present, so bear this in mind if you have allergies or are not keen on dogs.
What you'll get
The materials needed to carry out one or more repairs, plus refreshments (please let me know if you have any special dietary requirements).

My name is Sandra and I learned how to knit when I was seven. I have a very vivid memory of standing in the school playground knitting needles in my hands and a ball of wool in my pocket! Crochet came a bit later when I was twelve, with a baby blanket.
Later, I got interested in visible mending and added the Japanese mending technique of Sashiko to my existing darning skills, enabling me to repair a very wide range of holey textiles!
Being creative helps me feel good about life and I love to help others find ways of expressing their own creativity too. I take great pleasure from seeing students progress and in their joy at their achievements.
I teach crochet, darning and knitting in classes of up to five people. I also offer one-to-one tuition at £25 for the first hour and £15 for any following hour in the same session.
