Visible Mending Workshop; Embroidery

Learn simple techniques in this mending embroidery workshop in London.

1 hour Class size 1 to 12 guests

£5 - £15 (£5 for Community Taster Ticket; £15 for True Cost Ticket)

Inspired by Kate Sekules and her creative approach to textile repair, this visible mending workshop in London explores mending as both a practical skill and a form of self-expression. You’ll learn how to repair and transform garments in a way that celebrates the marks of wear rather than hiding them.
No experience is needed -- just bring along something you’d like to mend. You’ll be supported throughout in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
What to expect:
  • Learn simple embroidery stitches including running stitch, chain stitch, buttonhole stitch, and French knots.
  • Explore decorative techniques such as spider wheel roses.
  • Stitch directly onto your own garment to repair, embellish, or highlight worn areas.
  • Receive guidance and support from your tutor throughout.
  • Work in a calm, creative setting focused on sustainability and repair.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a repaired or reimagined garment and the skills to continue visible mending, along with a new perspective on caring for and extending the life of your clothes.
Good to know:
  • The Remakery is committed to making ecological craft more accessible to the community.
  • All our Thursday classes are subsidised to make them affordable and guarantee an income for local ecological practitioners.
  • For Thursday Taster Classes, we offer 'Community Taster Tickets' at £5 -- these tickets are aimed at people who face financial barriers to taking part, particularly if you're under 25 or unwaged.
  • The True Cost ticket allows us to keep the programme going. We appreciate the support of all the local crafters out there who come to try something new and meet like-minded people.
  • Please note -- due to the high admin cost of rearranging classes, we don't offer refunds or reschedules for Thursday evening classes.

The Remakery started 10 years ago as a community space for repairing and upcycling furniture.
Since then we have developed several communal workshops for a range of eco-craft activities, and an exciting programme to link climate action with the empowerment of making with your hands.
Our practitioners have trained at London's top Arts schools, or developed their skills over years of self-discovery.
Our programme is curated by Alice Holloway; A researcher in regenerative fashion with The RCA and London Met university, and Innovate Creative Catalyst grant winning regenerative fashion designer.
The skills we share at the Remakery are proven to improve mental health, as well as change how class attendees see the world. We want everyone to feel empowered to make a difference, and we have seen how learning to make something is often in the first step towards changing something bigger.
