Who has not imagined 'the miracle of a poetic prose, musical though rhythmless and rhymeless, flexible yet strong enough to identify with the lyrical impulses of the soul, the ebbs and flows of revery, the pangs of conscience?', questions Charles Baudelaire (in Francis Scarfe's translation).
In this workshop, you'll delve into the beauty and intricacies of prose poetry, exploring its origins in nineteenth-century French poetry and examining how contemporary writers continue to embrace this unique form. You'll have the opportunity to craft your own prose poems, capturing the essence of lyrical impulses and the depths of the soul.
Don't worry if you're new to prose poetry – this class is designed for all levels of experience, creating a welcoming space for creativity to flourish.
Throughout the session, you'll work with literary materials and exercises that encourage you to tap into your poetic instincts. The process may evoke a mix of emotions, from contemplative revery to moments of introspection.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have explored the 'miracle of a poetic prose' in your writing, gaining valuable insights into this form of expression. You'll leave with your own crafted prose poems, each a reflection of your personal lyrical journey.
