Hi, I’m Angharad - the cake designer behind The Love Spoon Bakery in Shrewsbury.
My love for baking began in my Welsh grandmother’s kitchen. She was an incredible cook with a gift for bringing people together through food, celebration, and creativity. She taught me how to bake from a young age, and as a teenager she gifted me baking books that I read obsessively. Those early moments shaped everything I’ve gone on to build.
In her day, she served as the National Hostess of Wales, travelling the country to celebrate Welsh culture and gifting traditional love spoons as symbols of connection and warmth. I named my bakery in her memory. The Love Spoon Bakery is my way of continuing her legacy - creating joy, community, and creativity through beautiful cakes and shared experiences.
I’ve been baking for over 15 years, and my background in Fine Art has become a huge part of my style - I approach cakes as colourful, edible sculptures. A big part of my growth has also come from Sheila Sager of The Shrewsbury Bakehouse, who took me under her wing and taught me so much about technique, craft, and the discipline behind great baking. She was the first person to recognise my potential, and she is still a dear friend all these years later.
Teaching is one of the brightest parts of my job. I adore seeing people surprise themselves - especially those who arrive saying they’re “not creative.” Watching someone pick up a piping bag and discover what they can make is honestly magical. My classes are intentionally cosy (6 people max), so everyone gets support, encouragement, and space to play.
I run my classes from my pastel-coloured bakery studio in Coleham, where I also create wedding cakes for couples across Shropshire and beyond. Over the years, I’ve made thousands of commissioned cakes, worked with local venues, collaborated with independent businesses, and featured in countless customer reviews that make me cry happy tears.
I’m honoured to have received multiple awards for my wedding cake designs - recognition that still feels surreal and deeply meaningful. Each award is a reminder of why I care so much about this craft and the people I create for.
At the heart of everything I do is connection - the pride of making something from scratch, the joy of seeing it come together, and the shared experience that food creates. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to learn new techniques in a warm, welcoming space, I’d love to share the love of baking with you… just as my Grandma and Sheila shared it with me.
