  • 5/5 from Rupert Gibson, attended Oct 2026: We absolutely loved this class! It was so well structured and Sam explained everything so clearly, it was perfect for us as beginners. She had gorgeous colour choices on her paints and threads, we all created something so special and unique. I’d highly recommend this class!

  • 5/5 from Romea Cafasso, attended May 2026: A great way to spend a Sunday. Sam it’s an excellent teacher and her passion for creativity is obvious in her sessions. The botanical workshop used water colours and sewing, both of which I had very little experience of. I am so pleased with the piece I created and it was such a relaxing way to spend time with friends. Looking forward to my next workshop already.
  • 5/5 from Kate Perrott, attended May 2026: This was such a great class. Sam is both knowledgeable and informative. She made the class seem relaxed but at the same time I learned so much. I now have a lovely picture that I am proud to hang in my home.
  • 5/5 from Emma Austin, attended May 2026: Absolutely brilliant time today with Sam, who was very patient as it was a new experience for us all. Great instruction and assistance. Lovely rustic location. Will definitely recommend this venue to others. Thank you Sam!
  • 5/5 from Sam Emptage, attended Apr 2026: I went with three friends to learn new stitches and produce a botanical picture. Sam Luxford is a brilliant teacher and she creates a calm atmosphere, enabling everyone to work at their own pace. It was a fabulous day and truly memorable. Two examples of work produced, appear below.
  • 5/5 from Jackie Wood, attended Apr 2026: Another fabulous session run by Sam who is really talented and shares her skills so freely. Her ideas and gentle guidance make her workshops so successful. Use of tech today only improved a great day, even further. I would have no hesitation in recommending any of Sam’s classes
  • 5/5 from Sarah Jervis, attended Apr 2026: What an amazing day. Sam gave clear and precise guidance allowing for individual ‘artistic’ flair. So lovely to see everyone’s finished piece of art. Would definitely recommend without hesitation and a lovely goody bag of everything we’ve used is a massive bonus as allows you to create further pieces at home. Thank you Sam x

Hi, I am Sam Luxford, artist and creator behind the NaviStitch Brand. My NaviStitch work is created by hand-stitching on old navigation charts. I started the business in 2013. I was first inspired by a family that had been on holiday and stitched their road route onto an Ordnance Survey Map. Living on the coast and loving the water, I had old navigation charts to work with, and instead of a road route, I stitched an anchor, compass, boat, or other nautical-inspired image.
This is where I developed my techniques for embroidery on paper. The business has evolved a lot in that time and is now run from my shop on Manningtree High Street, where I also have an exhibition and teaching space.
My own work has also evolved a great deal, and I love to work with watercolours and collage. I then embroider into the created artwork. I have developed and curated a set of tools and materials that are a pleasure to work with when embroidering on paper. Until relatively recently, I had been quite secretive about my techniques but decided that it's time to share the skills.
I have been teaching in my shop since 2015 with great feedback from my students. I have also written two books based around my workshops. The books are really a workshop in book format, and I also offer a full materials pack alongside the book, everything you need to create the project in the book, in a letterbox-friendly kit.
I look forward to creating with you soon. Sam
