I've always believed that sewing should be for everyone, not just people who have been lucky enough to learn from a family member or who already know their way around a sewing machine.
That's why I started Talking Threads – to create a friendly, welcoming space where people can learn to sew, get creative and, most importantly, have a go without worrying about getting things wrong!
As a fully qualified teacher, I know that everyone learns differently. I'm passionate about making sewing accessible to all abilities and experience levels, whether you're a complete beginner who's never touched a sewing machine or someone looking to build on skills they already have. I also have experience supporting people with additional needs, so creating an inclusive, patient and non-judgemental environment is really important to me.
For me, teaching isn't just about showing someone how to sew a straight line. It's about watching their confidence grow, seeing that moment when something finally clicks, and helping them realise they're capable of far more than they thought.
I love that sewing gives people the chance to slow down, switch off from everyday stresses and spend time doing something creative. There's something incredibly satisfying about starting with a pile of fabric and finishing with something you've made yourself – even if there are a few wonky stitches along the way!
At Talking Threads, questions are always welcome, mistakes are part of the process, and nobody needs to feel embarrassed about being a beginner. I want people to leave feeling proud of what they've achieved and excited to try something new.
I'm a qualified teacher as well as a sewing enthusiast, and I bring my teaching experience into everything I do at Talking Threads. I understand that trying something new can feel daunting, so I aim to make my workshops relaxed, supportive and, above all, enjoyable.
My workshops are about much more than making something lovely to take home. They're also an opportunity to meet people, share ideas, have a chat and enjoy a little creative time for yourself.
I particularly love helping people discover that sewing doesn't have to be complicated or intimidating. You don't need expensive equipment, years of experience or a natural talent for crafting to get started. You just need a little curiosity and a willingness to give it a go!
Whether you're learning your very first stitch or rediscovering a hobby you haven't tried in years, I'd love to welcome you to Talking Threads.
