Join us at Golden Hill Wood, a peaceful woodland setting in the heart of the Welsh countryside, for a one-day spoon carving workshop in our beautiful open-sided workshop—hand-built from timber sourced on-site. Nestled among the trees, this space invites you to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with your hands, your craft, and the land.In this green woodworking course, you'll learn the art of traditional spoon carving using only hand tools—no power tools, no noise, just the rhythm of axe and knife on wood. Discover the timeless techniques used before modern machines, when people carved practical tools directly from freshly felled trees.By the end of the day, you’ll go home with your very own hand-carved wooden spoon, as well as the knowledge and confidence to continue carving on your own.What You’ll Learn in the Spoon Carving Class:

• How to source and select green wood suitable for carving
• An introduction to bodging and green woodworking theory
• How to cleave a spoon blank from a log
• Axe skills for rough shaping
• Safe and effective wood carving techniques
• How to use a hook knife (spoon knife) to carve the bowl
• Tips for sanding, finishing, and oiling your spoon

This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly wood carving class, perfect for those interested in bushcraft, traditional skills, or simply trying something new in a nurturing, forest-based environment.We provide all tools and materials, as well as tea, coffee, and biscuits throughout the day.About your instructorCeli has been working with green wood since 2010. Self-taught at first, they deepened their knowledge through an apprenticeship in woodland management, green building, and traditional crafts. Since then, they’ve worked in forestry, crafted and sold wooden items, and taught countless people the joys of spoon carving. Together with their partner Reyna, they co-founded Golden Hill Wood—a woman-led project committed to sustainability, inclusivity, and skill-sharing.We’re proud to support female and minority gender teachers, and regularly run volunteer days and community projects to connect people with the land and hands-on skills.
