Spinning Workshop

South London unraveled beginner spinners weekly meetup!

1 hour Class size 1 to 15 guests       £5

Discover the joy of fibre craft at SLUBS (South London Unravelled Beginner Spinners), a welcoming drop-in club for anyone curious about spinning, carding, or simply enjoying a creative chat with fellow makers. Meeting once a week at The Remakery, this group is all about regaining empowering skills that our communities have lost, and enjoying the well being benefits of hand making.
Perfect for complete beginners as well as seasoned makers, SLUBS is a space to relax, swap tips, and explore the process of turning raw fleece into beautiful, usable yarn. No pressure, no experience needed -- just come along and give it a try.
What to expect:
  • Learn how to spin carded fleece into yarn in a relaxed, sociable setting.
  • Try your hand at turning raw fleece into yarn using drop spindles
  • Explore The Remakery’s brilliant facilities, including scouring, natural dyeing, drum carding, and more.
  • Beginners are welcome -- fibre and drop spindles can be provided if you want to try something new.
  • Bring your own projects if you’d like to work alongside others and share skills.
This is a very informal learning environment; so if you have specific questions don't be shy and ask away!
By the end of a session, you’ll leave with new knowledge, fresh inspiration, and a community of fibre enthusiasts to keep you motivated.

The Remakery started 10 years ago as a community space for repairing and upcycling furniture.
Since then we have developed several communal workshops for a range of eco-craft activities, and an exciting programme to link climate action with the empowerment of making with your hands.
Our practitioners have trained at London's top Arts schools, or developed their skills over years of self-discovery.
Our programme is curated by Alice Holloway; A researcher in regenerative fashion with The RCA and London Met university, and Innovate Creative Catalyst grant winning regenerative fashion designer.
The skills we share at the Remakery are proven to improve mental health, as well as change how class attendees see the world. We want everyone to feel empowered to make a difference, and we have seen how learning to make something is often in the first step towards changing something bigger.
