One relaxing day making three classic breads, with a maximum of four budding bakers around my kitchen table on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
On this hands-on bread day, I’ll teach you three breads that will see you through every week of the year. And I can honestly say they are all firm favourites in our family home.
Sourdough. We’ll take the mystery out of it. You’ll learn what a starter is, how to feed it and keep it active, and how to fit sourdough baking around a busy life. I’ll guide you through making a loaf in a day by hand, and by the end of the class you’ll have the confidence to bake it at home again and again.
Focaccia. Golden, dimpled and glistening with olive oil, this is the bread that always wows when friends and family come over. You’ll learn how to handle a wet dough with confidence, and you’ll be amazed how quick it is to make.
Bloomer. The classic British white loaf, with its crackly crust and soft middle. I’ll show you how to make it by hand, and how to prove and shape your loaf. No fancy equipment required.
What’s included
  • 6 hours of hands-on baking, from 10am to 4pm
  • Morning refreshments, a homemade lunch, and hot and cold drinks throughout the day
  • A jar of my sourdough starter to take home, so you can keep baking
  • A recipe pack with everything we bake, plus my tips for troubleshooting
  • All your ingredients and equipment
  • A big bag of bread you’ve made yourself, to take home and show off to friends and family
Why such a small class?
This class is for just four people, which gives me time to help you with every technique and question. I’ll be right beside you at each stage, answering every “is this right?” as it comes up. Hi, I'm Caroline Bailey, the founder, award winning wedding cake designer and heart and soul behind Hunkington House Kitchen.
My baking love started at an early age, all thanks to my amazing Mum and Nan, who were fantastic in the kitchen, always creating something delicious. Learning from them at an early age sparked a passion that has led me on a long path to where I am now.
This baking journey has been full of excitement from baking with John Whaite, cooking with Monica Galetti, achieving third place in the Great Shropshire Bake Off and also getting through to the final 70 applicants for the Great British Bake Off. Even though I didn’t get selected for the show it gave me the confidence and drive to pursue my dream career in baking.
Having spent years perfecting my baking skills attending classes, creating the most amazing cakes for weddings and other special occasions I have taken my love and passion, helping people to create and bake deliciousness, through fun interactive experiences.
The dream baking experience for me is where people feel at ease, it's interactive and you get to learn in a fun and engaging way. So in a nutshell that's what I deliver.
It is the best job to have when you get to see first hand how proud people are of their creations and their very own baking delights, even the ones who started nervous. My aim is to create a memorable experience for everyone to enjoy and I want my classes to ooze that specialness too.
Yes I'm a little bit obsessed with all the baking delights you can create yourself, so if I can spark memories to treasure, just like the ones I hold dearly then I'm doing it right! Whether it's an experience for a public class, a private group or 1-2-1, the baking fun is waiting to be explored.
Love Caroline xxx
