How can we help?
Q: What workshops do you offer?
We run a variety of workshops throughout the year sharing jewellery making skills in fun and informative classes in the Hertfordshire area. Half day or full day workshops will focus on complimentary jewellery making techniques around working with silver clay, sterling silver and gold - shaping and texturing, adding embellishments such as gemstones, sea glass and pearls, polishing and finishing, and securing to a chain or findings so that your piece can be worn home.
Q: Are classes suitable for beginners?
Yes, many classes are suitable for complete beginners (see class descriptions) and you will be guided through step by step how to make a piece of jewellery ready to take home with you. Good starter classes are the Introduction to Silver Clay and Silver Stacking Rings workshops - each of the classes last around 3 hours.
Q: What age are classes suitable for?
Silver clay jewellery classes are suitable for ages 12 years and up. For silver-smithing classes e.g. stacking rings which involved soldering with a small handheld torch, we advise age 16+.
Q: Is the studio suitable for for those with mobility issues?
The studio is based on the second floor, of the building unfortunately there is no lift.
Q: Where can I park?
There are plenty of public carparks very close to the studio. The closest is Gombards (AL3 5EN) which is a 2 minute walk from the studio. Other alternatives are NCP Drovers Way carpark (AL3 5EB) 5 min walk, or Christopher Place (AL3 5EA) 3 min walk.
Q: Can I reach the studio by public transport?
Silver Daisy Jewellery Studio is based in the heart of St Albans city centre and well connected by road, bus routes, and rail. St Albans City Station (Thameslink) is a 15-20 minute walk from the studio with fast trains to Central London in 20 minutes. St Albans Abbey Station (connections to Watford and Euston) is approx a 20 min walk away.
Q: Are there other things to do close by?
The studio is based in the heart of historic St Albans city centre, just a stones throw from the cathedral, clock tower, and bustling shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Make a day, or even a weekend, of your trip and enjoy all that St Albans has to offer just 20 mins by train from St Pancras International, London.
Q: Can I book a private jewellery making party / session?
Yes, I offered tailored sessions to your requirements. Jewellery making is a great activity for a birthday celebration or hen party. Minimum party size is 6 people. I can also offer 1-2-1 tuition or special ‘make your own wedding rings’ workshops for couples.
Q: What's the cancellation policy?
A: No cancellations, but free to reschedule up until 14 days before the class
Q: How long does the class run for, and what's the price?
A: 3 hours, £68 - £75 per guest (£75 per guest when you book for 1+ guests, £68/guest for 4+ guests)

Prepare
We will texture, measure, and then cut the silver wire for your ring bands to the right size.
Shape
Using pliers, a hammer and mandrel we will shape your ring bands.
Solder
Next we will solder the end of the wire together to form a secure join - we do this using flux, solder and heat from a small handheld torch. Don't worry - we will be on hand to ensure this is done safely.
Pickle
The soldered ring is then bathed in a solution to remove any oxidisation from the soldering process to ensure the metal is clean.
Polish
The final stage once we are happy with the shape and texture of our rings is to polish and let the silver shine!
