  • 5/5 from Sarah Pumfrey, attended Oct 2026: Liz was a great teacher, calm and informative. Everything was demonstrated clearly. When she told us we’d all make 3 silver rings by the end of the day I was very sceptical, having never done anything like this before. But all 8 of us made 3 rings each, all very individual to the maker. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, love my rings and want to try more jewellery making classes. Highly recommend
  • 5/5 from Robert Evans, attended Oct 2026: Great Class, Liz was a brilliant and helpful teacher, she made the whole process very straightforward and easy to follow, producing 3 unique rings.
  • 5/5 from Amanda Forecast, attended Aug 2025: Brilliant course. Taught at a good pace. I was amazed what I produced by the end. Would highly recommend it as a course.
  • 5/5 from Mike Finch, attended Jan 2025: This class was absolutely fascinating and very interesting with Liz as the ideal tutor. She was so helpful and looked after the class really well. I was slightly apprehensive being an older beginner but I needn't have worried at all and came away with 3 highly polished silver rings that I had made myself to keep and to wear. I would thoroughly recommend Silver Bird to all ages. Fran Edson, 25 January 2025
  • 5/5 from Rachel Winson, attended Dec 2024: Really enjoyable day, great facilities and support, amazed by and delighted with what we made.
  • 5/5 from Audrey Jackson, attended Nov 2024: My daughter and I attended Liz Taylor's silver ring-making workshop two days ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Liz is a brilliant teacher. She explains each stage clearly, with demonstrations and is there to help individuals if necessary. Each participant has a workstation with all the tools required for ring-making, including a blow-torch. There are other pieces of equipment around the room which again, Liz demonstrates their use, always with the necessary safety measures. There were 8 of us on this particular workshop, ranging in age from twenties to eighties and we all proudly came away with three beautiful silver rings on our fingers. Throughout the day we were served regular hot drinks and made to feel at home. I can't recommend Liz highly enough and look forward to future workshops with her.
  • 5/5 from Val James, attended May 2024: We had a fabulous day at the ring making workshop run by Liz from Silver Bird. The four of us fitted perfectly in the pretty little garden workshop, me & the wife/partners of my 3 sons. Liz was warm & welcoming, providing excellent tuition and knowledge throughout the day. All materials and equipment we needed were available along with Liz's guidance on how too use them. We all started the day unsure and doubting our abilities but all of us ended up producing 3 lovely shiny rings which we were all proud to wear home! Possibly the most magical part was the final polishing, taking a dull okish looking item and turning it into a lovely shiny piece of jewellery! I think that the quality of the workshop, especially Liz's incredible knowledge, and the silver rings you get to take home, offers excellent value for money. Thank you Liz for such a lovely & memorable day
  • 5/5 from Carol Harding, attended May 2024: This was a birthday treat for my daughter. We had a fantastic day with Liz and made four rings each. My daughter had made jewelry before, but I was a total beginner and the class was geared towards both of our abilities. Great value, we really enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend the workshop.

I am the owner of The Silver Bird, an artisan, handmade jewellery business based in a semi-rural village in Cambridgeshire. I am a member of the Guild of Jewellery Designers, have a Diploma in Fine Jewellery making, and am currently completing a Diploma in Advance Jewellery making with the London Jewellery School. I specialise in bespoke commissions and customisable pieces, as well as teaching traditional jewellery making techniques.
I retired from an 18 year career as a secondary DT teacher, over which time I taught hundreds of young people how to design and make novel, beautiful products, by exploring material properties and generating unique forms.
During this time, I completed a Masters of Education at Cambridge University, focusing on creative idea generation and development. This gave me a particular passion for biomimicry; using and replicating the nature through product design to make unique textures and forms.
I have taught adult silver jewellery making classes in several schools, and have set up my own teaching school in Pampisford, Cambridge.
Jewellery making with silver is easily the most addictive thing I have ever done. And that's before we talk about the enchanting world of gemstones! Whether you are into contemporary or classic pieces, you are learning for pleasure, or you want your own career change, I can help you fall in love with the processes and achieve your jewellery-making potential.
Contact me for an informal chat if you'd like more information of what I can offer. I look forward to making with you.
