Started by Rose Radtke and Ben Walton, SIDE PROJECT is a creative community based in Brighton & Hove. It’s for people who make things on the side, wish they did, or forgot they could.
Brighton is full of talented, independent, creative people; designers, writers, strategists, developers and makers, who are quietly brilliant at what they do but don’t have a space that feels like theirs.
SIDE PROJECT isn’t a networking group. It’s not a course. It’s not another Slack channel. It’s more human and more interesting than that.
It’s for creative professionals, freelancers, founders and makers who are good at what they do but feel a bit stuck, a bit isolated, or a bit bored of doing the same thing.
SIDE PROJECT enables you to experiment. To write something you wouldn’t normally write, to show up to something that you wouldn’t normally attend, and meet people you wouldn’t normally meet.
You might be a designer who’s been meaning to write but hasn’t started.
A strategist who secretly wants to make pottery.
A developer who writes code all day but wants to write beautiful sentences by night.
A founder who’s stressed out leading and wants to go on coastal walks and photograph the elements.
SIDE PROJECT puts on talks, walks, studio visits, tastings, writing sessions and panels.
And there are programmes to enrol to, such as the Creative Recovery Programme for burnt-out creatives.
You can join our community by subscribing to our Substack. Access to the SIDE PROJECT Substack ‘magazine’ and the all the articles within is free. Paying members have access to the community chat, to exclusive lives with inspiring creatives and free or priority access to events and programmes.
