Repair & Rework Designer.
Primarily I have a drive to be a part of and promote an alternative fashion future – exploring circularity through visible repair and reworking existing garments, and making use of textile scraps that would otherwise be discarded. I am exploring the idea that nowadays, people don’t wear their clothes long enough for them to become damaged and require a repair, so in some cases, physical durability isn’t always the answer, but rather finding ways to increase the emotional durability of the clothing is, so in a way I am ‘visibly repairing the relationship between the consumer and their clothing’ creating patches out of scrap materials, that the consumer can use to customise that top they bought two months ago and are already sick of – giving it a new life, in turn extending its life.
My practise grew from me recognising my responsibility as a designer to not only lower the impact of the pieces I was creating, but to also educate and facilitate change through connecting with consumers, so they are able to lower the impact on their end, with the idea of visible repair being a conversation starter, as well as something to be taught in workshops.
