If you ever struggle to find the perfect fit with your clothes, why not learn how to tailor them yourself. Whether it's trousers that are too long or you want to repurpose old clothes into stylish new attire, this sewing class is a great place to start and learn.
Guided by a talented and friendly bespoke tailor, you will get hands-on experience with garment alteration techniques. From learning how to assess your garment with a tailor's eye, to fitting to your proportions and unpicking retailers stitches, and sewing it back together again. You'll be picking up many useful tips and tricks.
This sewing workshop is one-on-one, so you get complete attention from your teacher as you work on your project and learn new skills. If you book as 2 people please bring a similar item to alter and with similar needs for alteration. Your teacher Claire will provide all the equipment you need and will adapt the class based on your abilities. With 6+ years experience teaching sewing skills and 15+ years experience in sewing, garment construction and alterations, Claire is well equipped to take you on your sewing journey.
There is plenty of room for questions but we do recommend you have some sewing knowledge before joining this class. It's a must-do in London for all the sewing enthusiasts out there who want to hone their skills.
By the end of this workshop, you will have already fixed one garment you bought with you, and have all the knowledge you need to keep fixing more.
Please note:
Depending on the garment and alteration we may only finish 1 half during the class. Please get in touch prior to booking if you'd like to go through any questions.

My name is Claire and I am The Ethical Tailor. I am the founder of Moxie Craft sewing skills and Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailors based in Canning Town. I grew up in Harlow, Essex with a creative mother and an entrepreneur father. After gaining a BA(Hons) degree in clothing design and tailoring from Brighton University, I ventured into the world and set up my company to combat the inequalities of the fashion industry I had been subject to.
By creating zero waste through pattern cutting, natural dyeing and sourcing the most sustainable cloth and haberdashery we aim to have very little negative impact on the planet and local people.
Now with 20 years of retail knowledge and 18 years of tailoring experience and 6 years of teaching behind me, I feel confident in my ability to produce clothing that is timeless. Clothing construction is a great passion of mine that sits juxtaposed with a strong interest in the environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry. I aim to be a contributing factor in helping to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry whilst educating people about the issue through my workshops and trading fairly within the supply chain.
