In this workshop, Ruth will guide you step-by-step in creating a stylish piped cushion that features an envelope opening. Throughout the session, you will learn essential sewing techniques that will enable you to produce a piped cushion of your own, as well as gain the confidence to design and make more, either for your own home or to give as beautiful gifts.
This hands-on experience not only enhances your sewing skills but also actively encourages creativity and individuality in your crafting journey.
By the end of the workshop, you will proudly take home your very own beautifully crafted 40x40 cm cushion, which serves as a testament to your newfound skills, creativity, and effort.
What you'll get
Sewing machines and sewing equipment will be provided.
Notions supplied at the workshop include piping cord, neutral thread, and cushion pads.
Knowledge required
This workshop is suitable for those who have some experience and confidence using a sewing machine. We recommend complete beginners start with our Beginners' Machine Sewing workshop.
All skills relating to cushion-making will be guided step-by-step during the workshop.
What to bring
Bring along your own choice of cotton or linen medium-weight fabric to suit your own interior style—this ensures you create a cushion that perfectly complements your own home.
Please note we strongly recommend cotton or linen for this workshop, as other fabrics may be more challenging to work with.
(If you prefer, Ruth can provide fabric for you at an additional cost, but please contact us in advance to arrange this.)
Fabric measurements - cotton or linen only:
  • 1 x main fabric piece: minimum width 120cm x length 70cm
  • 1 x piping fabric: minimum width 100cm x length 50cm
(Piping cord and neutral thread will be provided. Please bring thread to match your fabric if preferred.)
You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you, but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.
Refreshments are available at our on-site café Blend until 4pm.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
