Join us at Stitching Kitchen to create your own comfortable underwear. The Wonder Undies pattern is an easy-sew underwear pattern with a range of options for different waist and leg styles.
There are briefs and shorts, both of which can be either low- or high-rise. Choose between elastic or jersey cuffs/bands to finish the waist and legs.
This pattern is designed for four-way stretch jersey fabric and, importantly, can be assembled using either a domestic sewing machine or an overlocker. As we will be using stretch fabric and the pieces are a little fiddly, this workshop is better suited to those who have some experience of sewing.
What you will learn/achieve
  • Skills in handling four-way stretch fabric and fiddly pieces.
  • Techniques in finishing waist and leg openings with elastic or jersey bands.
  • You'll go home with your own pair of made-to-measure pants and the pattern and know-how to make many more!
  • Tuition: full instruction and support in a small class
  • Wonder Undies pattern.
  • Use of our Janome and PFAFF sewing machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.
  • Tea and cake.
You will need approximately half a metre of four-way stretch cotton jersey and fold-over elastic or elastic lace trim if you wish. You can also find our selection online in Stitching Kitchen shop or you can buy on the day if you prefer.
We have sewing machines and a limited number of overlockers, so if you wish to use your own overlocker, please feel free to bring it along.

Hannah Thompson is a self-taught textile artist. She has been crafting since childhood. At school, she took a GCSE in textiles but didn't complete the course. Even back then, her love was to interpret buildings in stitch and appliqué. The idea of using textiles to represent such a solid structure really appealed and still does.
Hannah had left creativity behind through her early adult life until suffering a breakdown and divorce in 2015. A dear friend invited her to an embroiderers guild meeting, and it sparked an interest and a desire to learn. The speaker that night had been stitching into plastic bags—the sky really is the limit when it comes to textiles.
Since then, she has immersed herself in all things textiles, attending workshops and stitching in company through that process. She has joined Embroiderers Guild, the Quilters Guilds and latterly the International Association of Feltmakers. Being part of these organisations offers opportunities to learn and to exhibit.
Her business, “Stitching Kitchen, ” is now her main focus. She offers a friendly and inclusive environment to stitch in company and to learn new skills. At the start of the business, she thought she would make and sell textile art and handmade items, but as time progressed, she found that sharing her skills and offering adults the opportunity to play while learning textile-based crafts was what she really enjoyed. The business is now situated in commercial premises in Brackley, Northamptonshire (just off the M40 and not far from the M1) and now offers regular drop-in sessions, sewing and textile-based craft workshops.
