One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Jennie Peers, attended Sep 2026: The class was really good and I left feeling more knowledgeable and confident in using a sewing machine. I bought the machine that was used in the class as it had the features I will need and wasnt expensive.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Sep 2026: I wanted to learn what my sewing machine could do, I wanted to learn how to sew french seams and I wanted to know what the extra attachments for my sewing machine were for. I learnt all of the above and was never made to feel like an idiot for not knowing - which was the best. Not many people can share knowledge in such a way. The only downside was the situation of the lesson - at a very small table on the shop floor with shoppers walking past. This was a little distracting.
  • 5/5 from Michelle Heritage, attended Aug 2026: I really enjoyed my lesson and found it incredibly useful. It was a great overview of my own sewing machine, showing me how to set it up properly and helping me understand the different stitches and functions. Everything was explained clearly and patiently, and I really appreciated how friendly and approachable my teacher was. The lesson was paced at my own level, which made me feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and have a go myself. I came away feeling much more confident using my machine and excited to continue learning. I would definitely recommend the lesson to anyone wanting to get to know their sewing machine better!
  • 5/5 from Janet Woods, attended Aug 2026: Thanks Helen Your class was a perfect starter Deron for me I came away feeling confident band ready to make my tote bag
  • 5/5 from Louise Chamberlain, attended Aug 2026: Loved it from beginning to end! Great to have 1-1 and be listened to, not feel silly asking what you thought were stupid questions. Teacher even went out their way to may a crocheted swatch to help me with

  • 5/5 from Jennifer Moores, attended Jun 2026: Recap on using a sewing machine, during the session we covered how to thread the machine and put the needle in the correct way. How the stitching works and which stitches to use for button holes, we made a cushion cover which I wanted to do. We then talked about the various machines for.sale and how they differ, the whole hour was very informative and helpful, I'm looking forward to purchasing the machine I need.
  • 5/5 from Lucy Bishop, attended Jun 2026: Julie was very down to earth, relaxed and very encouraging and positive. Without realising, I made a cushion cover with her help! It was helpful that things didn’t always go to plan and thread broke at times but this helped me to realise that anyone can have problems at times! Thank you very much for a great lesson x

  • 5/5 from Linda Seddon, attended Nov 2024: Although unable to demonstrate threading of overlocker, Anita did an excellent job of explaining how they worked, and showed me a model on display. She demonstrated stitches which can be used to do a similar task using an ordinary sewing machine and gave a brief overview of her model. Her colleague, apologies didn’t catch her name, explained how she had used the overlocker to hem and create a pair of children’s pj’s which were displayed in shop. I’m feeling much more confident and have purchased new needles to replace my existing 40 year old ones. Both ladies were extremely helpful and gave me links to relevant sources of online information. • 5/5 from Tracy Williams, attended Feb 2024: Anita was fabulous. I wanted to learn basics of a sewing machine as my confidence was knocked when I was at school. I am lucky my mum and nana always used to sew, so I grew up around machines. Anita showed me all about the machine and what all the knobs were for. We then started sewing in a straight line, then went on to make button holes. Finally my nemesis - a zip. Yes, I sewed a zip and turned my masterpiece into a large pencil case/makeup bag. I would recommend this class to anyone. Anita goes at your pace and answers your questions.
  • 5/5 from Tracey Bruton, attended Feb 2024: Julie was really helpful and told me some tips to help me move forwards in my sewing
  • 5/5 from Kate Mead, attended Feb 2024: It was amazing and Anita was brilliant, as I was a complete novice never even touched a sewing machine she explained everything to me and now feel quite confident that I will enjoy my new hobby. She gave me lots of tips too. I will definitely be visiting again once I get a bit more experienced.
  • 5/5 from Elaine Bradley, attended Jan 2024: I found this one to one sewing session with Anita very worthwhile. I had taken a couple of small projects and was able to discuss with Anita the merits of different approaches and materials. I wanted to work on mitred corners, and although I had viewed various YouTube videos which were helpful, you can’t beat a proper practical session with someone who is so keen to share her knowledge. As there is no set format, you can work on whatever you want to concentrate on. The workroom had everything we needed. I recommend this session.
