This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Lynne Davies, attended Sep 2026: Julie is an excellent teacher; patient, precise with her instructions and has expert knowledge. Julie was able to demonstrate techniques which gave me confidence and as a beginner, placed me at ease from the start; her teaching style is ‘spot on’.
  • 5/5 from Grace Davies, attended Sep 2026: My teacher helped me through the session with an air of patience that calmed my anxiety. I was encouraged to keep trying and raise my confidence with working the machine.
  • 5/5 from Michelle Pritchard, attended Aug 2026: I booked the one to one sewing workshop for my 14 year old daughter who desperately wants to use her sewing machine but was getting very frustrated as it was more luck than judgement if she would manage to set up the sewing machine properly and have a go at making something. My daughter was very nervous going for the session as she is very shy in unknown situations. Julie picked up on this and was lovely with her. She asked her what she wanted from the session and took her time explaining and showing what my daughter needed to learn. Julie gave her lots of tips and plenty of positive encouragement to build her confidence. My daughter came away from the session feeling like she now knows her way around a sewing machine and has the confidence to start making things. Thank you Julie!
