Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Angela Fisher, attended Aug 2026: I had a one-to-one session with Kerry at Hobbycraft, Lincoln because I was having problems with my sewing machine, particularly the embroidery unit, and I was completely stuck. Although my machine is an older model that is no longer sold, Kerry was more than happy to take a look and talk me through it. She identified a couple of issues that were likely causing the problems, and once we sorted those out, everything worked brilliantly! She was extremely knowledgeable, patient and approachable, and gave me lots of helpful advice along the way. I’m so grateful for her help — it was a really positive experience and I left feeling much more confident. I would definitely recommend the one-to-one sessions at Hobbycraft.
  • 5/5 from Patricia Latus, attended Aug 2026: I bought 2 young girls in for a 1-1 sewing lesson starting from the very basics. Kerry was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. She was intuitive to the needs of the girls and explained everything with such clear instruction. She made it fun but educational without being patronising. We love it and have been practicing at home. Many thanks for your time and patience Kerry.
  • 5/5 from Jacob Davies-Lee, attended Jul 2026: teacher was absolutely amazing super helpful and lovely and learnt lots
  • 5/5 from Irene Bright, attended May 2026: The one to one sewing workshop was excellent. Having visited the Hobbycraft store in Lincoln we found the staff extremely helpful, both in the initial purchase of a machine and later organising a workshop so that my young grand daughter could gain confidence in using the machine correctly. The staff helped us with the process of choosing an appropriate course and sorting out the online application as well. We became quite good friends by the end of that process! As to the course itself Kerry was at pains to put young Tabitha at ease and the lesson flew by. We found the instructor very knowledgeable and experienced. Tabitha really enjoyed the session and went over what she had learnt in the following days. A very worthwhile course which was excellently put together. Top marks for all concerned!
  • 5/5 from Judith Howcroft, attended May 2026: Thank you to Kerry for my 1:1 lesson. It was exactly what I needed to get back into sewing with a machine. Kerry took the time to understand what I needed and how I learn. It was relaxed and very informative.
  • 5/5 from Linda Reid, attended Apr 2026: Kerry was absolutely brilliant. I wasnt sure if the problems I was having were related to my machine or me! It was me, although I had read the instructions on my machine it was far clearer when she explained and showed me what she meant on my machine. Although it says not to take your own machine, I asked if I could take mine and they said yes. This was good for me to see my actual machine doing what it should do.
  • 5/5 from Laura Kaciulyte, attended Mar 2026: Lovely lady with a lot of knowledge and very helpful, answered all my questions and showed exactly what I need to do. Many thanks Laura x

She also took time to advise on what I needed for my project and directed me to it in the store. I’m now excited to make my granddaughter’s first. Christmas stocking. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Christine, attended Nov 2025: I needed to learn how to use my new sewing machine, after replacing my old one with a more modern model and different make. My tutor was lovely.. A machine was out ready for me, and she explained everything very carefully, showing me each stage then getting me to do it myself, with material and thread ready to practise stitches etc. This workshop was everything I had hoped for. Thank you very much, Hobbycraft and, above all, Kerry.

  • 5/5 from Lorraine Jackson-Skinner, attended Apr 2025: Think the lady at Lincoln was Kerry if I remember right and the lesson was very informative. I hadn't even opened my machine and knew nothing she taught me on a machine the same as mine so I can now thread the reel and the bobbin and sew straight forward stitches on materials. Kerry was very patient and helpful and I will return for other lessons.

  • 5/5 from Georgia Walton, attended Jan 2025: I learnt the basics of how to use my sewing machine. This was super helpful as i would have been stuck if id tried myself. I was also given lots of tips for the future if things go wrong. My teacher was very nice and helped loads. What i liked most was that she went over everything and didn't assume i knew things already which meant i learnt everything thoroughly. I would definitely recommend and will book another if i struggle on anything in the future.

  • 5/5 from Jane Ledger, attended Aug 2023: Very friendly tutor with lots of experience. We used a Hobbycraft sewing machine to explore button hole making. After discussion, we used my own machine to explore my difficulty in this task at home and discovered that it was a problem with the machine. So we explored button hole making without an automatic machine programme. Very pleased with the experience. Big shout out for my tutor who was delightful.
  • 5/5 from Stephanie Oxford, attended Jul 2023: Tabby was a great teacher and very knowledgable, she ensured I had the machines I was interested in set up ready for practice and showed me in detail how to set them up and get going. I had a go with all the different features and even made a little drawstring bag to take home with me. I mentioned I would like to take up dressmaking and Tabby recommended a couple of the other girls who are more knowledgable on the topic should I ever want to book another class to help on this area. Overall great value for money and I would definitely recommend to anyone who is starting out

  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Jepmond, attended Mar 2023: As a bare basic starter with a sewing machine this was a totally relaxed and patient one-on-one. I’d highly recommend taking this if you’re nervous and just want to give a sewing machine class a go with little or no experience. I also know that if I had a project I was working on adequate advice and guidance would have been given too, as the instructor was very well versed in all things sewing machine and fabric craft. One of the most useful things to me was also the advice and information I was given about which sewing machine would be ideal for me, my needs and future projects I am interested in making.

  • 5/5 from Rebecca Money, attended Apr 2022: Kerry is very knowledgeable and helpful. I was asked to take my machine in for us to work on as it is a vintage Singer 603k. Kerry went through the various functions and adjustments on the machine which was very helpful, I didn't realise the machine had so many functions. Kerry helped me try various stitching / adjusting length, etc. My session was in the Lincoln store, in the middle of the shop. I felt a bit uncomfortable with this but I was soon too busy working with Kerry to worry about people shopping around us. I found the session extremely helpful, the machine was my late mum's and I hadn't used it since I was about 10 years old. Kerry helped me to remember how to feed the thread and adjust the tension, and to fill a bobbin. The session was very good value for money.
  • 5/5 from Ann Worrall, attended Jan 2022: Workshop was brilliant. Teacher was lovely, very supportive and very knowledgable. Showed me lots of things I can do with my machine and gave me a lot of confidence.
