One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 1/5 from Elaine Webb, attended Oct 2025: After confirming our project needs (beginners make up bag requiring a zipper) several times with the Woking staff in advance, even just the day before, as well as customer services who confirmed we were all good to go. We were then told only on the day of the session that the class teacher available Sunday at Woking was not able to assist with the project we booked to get help for so that the class was cancelled last minute leaving me with two very disappointed 12 year olds who were looking forward to this session for weeks. We were told that the person available could only explain how a sewing machine works which was not at all what we asked for. We have requested a full refund and cannot recommend these classes to anyone else as it appears to be false over promise of services the staff are not trained to deliver.
  • 5/5 from Sue Clayton, attended Sep 2025: Cathy was knowledgable, patient and a pleasure to learn from. We looked at the functions of the sewing machine and how to read a pattern. I didn’t have a gift card.
  • 5/5 from Jane Pratt, attended Aug 2025: Memory for names bad but think it was the very friendly Chloe. She did quick check on my project to help with what machine I wanted to buy. Once chosen she fetched one from stock so I could use it in workshop and take the same one home. Took me through the basics of setting the machine up with tips as we went along. Then had a preprinted fabric square to practice trying straight line sewing and corners. We then spent time discussing my project which was attaching a fabric lining to a knitted bag which was a complicated shape. Came up with some helpful suggestions to try. Overall very happy

  • 5/5 from Kaylee Arnold, attended Mar 2025: Had an introductory class with Chloe and I just want to say how fun loving she is! I actually had such a laugh we talked through some of the things I was confused about and Chloe made sure before I left that I understand. We had such a giggle the whole way through the class that it felt like 5 minutes! Chloe was very observant and pointed out my strengths congratulating me on them. Such a positive attitude makes it a great learning environment. I had such a laugh I'm booking another class with Chloe Thank you
  • 5/5 from Helen Latham, attended Mar 2025: I wanted the lesson to get guidance on buying a sewing machine for the first time. Catherine (Woking branch) was delightful. She showed me how a chosen machine works, and patiently explained how to use it (her help would have been applicable to most machines in stock from what I could tell). We had a barrel loads of laughs too. As I grow in confidence I know I can rely on her for a few more lessons, to build my skills! I'm excited to unbox my new machine. Highly recommended.

It was such a great lesson, definitely recommend to anyone who wish to learn a new skill.

I'd done a little research for the machine I wanted and Chloe confirmed it would be a good starter. We then started on the fabric worksheets to get used to the machine - Chloe was patient and encouraging throughout and answered all my questions. At the end of the class she spent a little extra time with me explaining what other things would be useful to purchase with the machine. I will be trying my machine next week and may book a further session if I need more help! Would highly recommend.

  • 5/5 from Alison Parrott, attended Mar 2024: I signed up for a one to one workshop because I'd bought a new sewing machine from Hobbycraft and was very rusty about using a machine. Mine was very old and difficult to use. The tutor was very friendly and put me at ease straight away. She showed me what to do and then watched as I did it. She showed me the many features of the machine and the different stitches. There were materials provided to take me through basic stitching etc. The workshop was in the shop so it was easy to access.
