One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Joolz Burt, attended Jun 2025: WOW What an absolutely amazing one-to-one sewing class with Lilly at Rustington branch. I had a particular requirement for hemming on various fabrics including stretch. All this was covered in our session from tension, stitch selection including the use of zigzag. All the step by step techniques clearing explained by Lilly and giving me the chance to practice hands on. Best of all we had time to go through a complete refresher of my machine settings and set up. Using my actual machine in the class has given me the skills and ability to come home and get on with my projects. I was able to purchase some accessories compatible with my machine with Lilly’s guidance. Lilly’s ability to explain and train me has given me the confidence to use more of the settings on my machine. Anyone wishing to brush up their skills or start as a complete novice would benefit from a One-to one class through Hobbycraft. I would % recommend this class and will return myself for more sessions. Also a great gift idea for friends and family as very reasonable price for the session. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous…yes as you can tell I really enjoyed my session! Thank You Lilly.

Has done myconfidence the world of good.

  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Merriman, attended Apr 2024: I really enjoyed my one to one class learning how to set up and use a sewing machine. The venue was west Worthing, I was greeted and taken to a workshop area which had everything ready to use. My instructor was very helpful and pleasant. I was shown how to thread the machine up and all the components of the machine were explained. Then I had an opportunity to have a go at stitching.any general questions I had were answered and the session had a lovely relaxed enjoyable vibe. Brilliant for novices like me with little idea of how to use a sewing machine. Gave me confidence to get stuck in to a new hobby. Many thanks to my friendly and helpful teacher!
  • 5/5 from Chris Leadbetter, attended Mar 2024: The workshop was excellent, I think the teacher was Emily she made the class such fun, didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing things about the new machine. Between us we discovered things neither of us knew. The venue was fine, a bit noisy with the rain hitting the roof. the fabric that gave us projects to do to use the dials was inspired idea. We found that the manual is a bit light on information but an experienced sewer could work things out for themselves, a total novice might struggle a bit. The Navy blue on the machine where the marker are is difficult to see (navy on navy) needs the line to be highlighted I used tipp-ex on mine to make it clearer. We both learnt how to use the auto threader it's tricky, definitely a knack to it. The scallop stitch does not come out as the picture shows. Very good value for money
  • 4/5 from Sasha Lankshear, attended Mar 2024: Donna was great, very patient and helpful. Was a complete beginner intro to sewing machine. Materials provided were basic but perfect for the session. Learnt how to do the basics of putting thread onto bobbin, loading the bobbin & thread, different functionality of the machine including different stitches and how to securely start and end stitches. Now I need to go off and practice so I can get started However I felt that, even though I was lucky to get the session on a slightly reduce price, for what it was I think the cost could have been a lot less. Yes I appreciate Donna spent an hour with me & I used some thread, some sample material, a machine and it was an hour long session but we’d covered off probably after half an hour and I don’t feel I needed to really book a session like that to learn what I did - I could have asked a member of staff to talk me through how to load up the machine. Next time I will do that instead of paying money out unnecessarily Although it did help give me some confidence in getting started so Donna thank you
  • 5/5 from Susan, attended Feb 2024: Gemma was ready and waiting for us to attend our first sewing machine lesson. She explained things clearly to two novices and we went away happy to start our new hobby. Good value for two students, but a shame further classes are not available locally.

  • 5/5 from Sue Scanlon, attended Jul 2023: my session was held yesterday friday 29 july 2.00pm to 3, 00pm. Gemma was from the beginning of tutoring extremely welcoming to me and made me feel at ease. Gemma was also so patient and was happy to go over time and time again how to thread the bobbin on the machine and and let me practice with out feeling awkward.Gemma was truly excellent.

  • 5/5 from Annette Agutu, attended Apr 2023: Wry useful demonstration of the basic operation of a Jerome sewing machine included was how to thread the bobbin and needle and to change the walking feet and had a chance to practice these. I was able to have a little play with sewing a straight line running stitch and some free motion circles, which was helpful. Abby was very friendly and knowledgeable in her approach. I really enjoyed the session and gained a lot of information in a short time. Thanks so much.
  • 5/5 from Fiona Parker, attended Mar 2023: Lois was an excellent teacher for a complete novice ; worked at my pace and gave me plenty of opportunities to practice what she’d demonstrated. Will be definitely return for another session. Excellent value
  • 5/5 from Kate Nicholson, attended Mar 2023: I booked a lesson on putting in a basic zip, however, as I'm making a skirt with a concealed zip, Abbie used that instead. I've never done one before and she talked me through each step, which I then did on the machine. She showed me how to correct the mistakes I made and was positive and encouraging throughout. It was enjoyable and I came away with much more confidence and a sense of achievement. I will definitely book again as I build my skills and I highly recommend.
  • 3/5 from Margaret White, attended Feb 2023: Very happy with demonstration. Every aspect of the sewing machine covered well. We’ll find you.
