Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Kerri Wheeler, attended May 2026: Was so pleased with how the session went. I had plenty of questions to ask which were answered and even took my machines manual so I could ask about what I didn’t understand. Went home and felt confident enough to make a simple handbag (when I had no experience and had not even turned my new machine on before the lesson).

  • 5/5 from Islay Cooper, attended Jun 2024: I have just got a sewing machine, i had not used one in over 40 years, so needed some lessons on using one again, I also needed help to used a pattern. My Teacher was excellent, very patient with me & guided me through using a pattern, I know how to read a pattern & my basic skills in using a sewing machine I was give material with line, circle & squares to practice on. The class is great value. I enjoyed the whole experience and I am going to have a few more lessons, as one is not enough for me.
  • 5/5 from Danielle Turner, attended Mar 2024: Attended a one to one sewing lesson today, my teacher was Jackie she was brilliant! Showed me basic sewing skills such as threading, bobbin winding, tension, stitching length and more. We even mastered smocking and pleats! I’m super pleased and loved my lesson. Highly recommend a one to one with Jackie. She’s very knowledgeable and helpful and will be in touch again for another lesson in my hour of need! Thank you ️️️️️
  • 5/5 from Jules, attended Jan 2024: A lesson for my granddaughter to learn to set up and use her new sewing machine. Her teacher, Jackie, was really patient and gave her the opportunity to have a go to set the machine herself. We really enjoyed the lesson and it was invaluable in building confidence to use her new sewing machine. Great value for money and highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Rachel Garrard, attended Jan 2024: Jackie did an amazing job making my daughter feel comfortable and keen to learn. After introducing the basics my daughter asked if she could help her make a dress for her bunny and she happily assisted.
  • 5/5 from Jack Loxston, attended Oct 2023: Emma has a natural aptitude for explaining often difficult points to put over. I needed this as I was starting with nil knowledge about sewing machines.! She told me that machines need two threads one from the spool reel and another from a bobbin which is loaded with thread from the spool on top, and there are two types of bobbin loading systems bottom and top. The demo m/c was bottom and of course mine is top!. Emma went off and found a machine similar to my own and we went from there ie Nothing was too much trouble. I intend to book two more follow-up sessions and I think your one-2-one lessons are excellent value. Jack
  • 5/5 from Susanne Sealey, attended Aug 2023: My tutor made me feel as ease. I was having trouble with my new Hobby craft 100s sewing machine and she took the time to talk me through different things that effect the working of a machine. She spent an age to get things right for me which wasn't an easy task.
  • 5/5 from Yvonne Witcombe, attended Aug 2023: Great tips and general advice for our sewing projects. Friendly and patient Answered all of our questions to the full and checked we’d understood before moving on. Thank you for helping us on our way to creating our garments
  • 5/5 from Rona Manley, attended Aug 2023: Teacher was very good, simple explanations as to how I use the machine to do fancy’ stitch work and embroidery, also buttonholes. As my knowledge is basic on the machine I came away more confident to experiment new tasks.
  • 5/5 from Jacqui Saunders, attended Jul 2023: Jackie was an excellent instructor and made sure she covered all the important things I needed to know. I just wish I’d known about the classes Hobbycraft run sooner!
  • 4/5 from Elizabeth Rendell, attended Jul 2023: Emma was lovely and we learnt a new skill together- how to make a blind hem. I will try this at home now
  • 4/5 from Alison Carty, attended Jul 2023: The teacher Emma was excellent and knowledgeable. However, we had to drive 15 miles and by the time we found Hobbycraft we needed to use the toilet. You could not accommodate us with staff toilets for health and safety reasons which was inconvenient as my daughter had to go and find toilet to use. There are no public toilets on the retail park, so had to rely on other shop retailers to accommodate us. That is my only complaint. If I had to do another workshop and it was longer than an hour would be very difficult. Especially for people with limited mobility.

  • 5/5 from Pauline Shave, attended Sep 2021: An excellent one-to-one session which was both informative and fun, for a rather nervous first time sewing machine user. A very helpful young lady, Emma, showed me how to use my sewing machine, answered my questions, and gave me much more confidence to come away and try out different things with it. She was also able to give advice on accessories, such as different sized needles and the best type of thread, and it was very useful holding the workshop in store so I could purchase any extras I needed there.
