Join Di Hammill Page of Wild Harvest School, at their workshop in the rural outskirts of York to weave a Willow Basket in this private one-to-two-day course.
Begin by learning how to select and prepare willow for weaving, then learn how to do a pairing weave to make the base. You will then insert the uprights and 'prick-up'. After 'pricking-up' and eating lunch (bring a packed lunch), you will return to your baskets to learn a new weave: three-rod wale, to complete the walls, finally finishing off with a complex plaited-looking border.
After you have both made your willow baskets, you will be led either around the farm or down to our pretty canal for a 1.5-hour foraging walk where you can take your new baskets and learn how to forage for wild food safely and sustainably.
Di has been teaching rural crafts and foraging for twenty years; is a qualified adult education tutor and has been featured on Channel4 and BBC.
Option to add on a tipi stay if you are travelling from afar.
This experience day is available seven days a week from October to March and from April to September on all days except Friday, Saturday, or Sunday as we have resident groups in the tipi site on summer weekends.
