Precious Metal Clay Workshop for Beginners

Create stunning silver jewellery in this beginner-friendly precious metal clay class in Dunblane.

6 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests       £180 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Discover the creative possibilities of precious metal clay in this relaxed, beginner-friendly jewellery workshop. Using this versatile material, you’ll design and create your own pieces in fine silver while learning a range of simple and rewarding techniques.
Precious metal clay (PMC) is composed of microscopic silver particles mixed with an organic binder, resulting in a soft, malleable material that can be shaped much like traditional clay. It allows for intricate detail and organic textures that are difficult to achieve through traditional metalworking. Once fired, the binder burns away, leaving behind solid fine silver.
During the workshop, you’ll explore a variety of ways to design and build your jewellery. You’ll begin by working with copper clay to experiment with techniques, including creating moulds from small found objects such as shells and buttons, and using rolled textures and cutters to develop decorative elements.
You’ll then move on to working in silver clay, applying your new skills to create finished pieces. You’ll learn how to join components using silver clay paste and build up more complex forms, before adding wires and findings to complete your designs as pendants, earrings or charms.
This course is ideal for beginners and is particularly suitable for those who may find traditional metalworking physically demanding, as precious metal clay can be shaped with relatively little hand strength.

Hi, I'm Jo, founder of Central Scotland School of Jewellery.
I started making jewellery because I loved the combination of creativity and problem-solving. Jewellery has an amazing way of turning simple materials into something people treasure, and I still find that just as exciting today.
In 2016, I founded Central Scotland School of Jewellery in Dunblane with the aim of making jewellery-making welcoming and accessible to everyone. Since then we've introduced thousands of people to the craft, from complete beginners making their very first ring to experienced jewellers developing specialist skills.
One of the things I'm most proud of is the team we've built. Alongside my own teaching, our workshops are delivered by a carefully selected group of experienced jewellers and specialist tutors, each chosen for their expertise and their friendly, supportive approach. Every tutor teaches to the same high standards that we've developed over the last ten years, so whichever workshop you join, you'll be in expert hands.
The best part of my job is watching someone arrive saying, "I'm not creative, " and leave a few hours later wearing something they've made themselves. That moment of surprise and pride never gets old.
Alongside running the school, I've taught at university level, worked with various national craft organisations, and regularly collaborate on projects that help make jewellery education more accessible.
Whether you're joining us for a fun day out, celebrating a special occasion or discovering a new hobby, we'd love to welcome you to the bench.
