My journey into baking began because I wanted to create desserts that brought moments of comfort, celebration and connection. Growing up in a Mauritian family, my life has been filled with vibrant colours, rich traditions and the joy of sharing food with loved ones.
My love of creating delicious treats took a new direction when I decided to leave my career as a primary school teacher and start my own baking business.
The business has now been running for a year, and our bakery has had the pleasure of creating wedding cakes, birthday cakes and being part of so many special occasions, including baby showers. I’ve now decided to take the next step in our exciting journey by bringing together my love of baking and my passion for teaching.
Baking became a way for me to reconnect with my heritage and rediscover a part of myself that had always brought me joy, comfort and a true sense of belonging. For me, our bakery is so much more than just making Mauritian desserts. It’s about sharing a piece of my culture, creating moments of happiness and making people feel genuinely cared for.
One of our Pravybelle Bakery’s specialities is Napolitaine, a traditional Mauritian biscuit that is particularly close to my heart. It’s a beautiful, delicate treat made with layers of biscuit and jam and finished with icing. I love being able to share a little taste of Mauritian food and culture with people who may never have tried it before.
We also make a range of dairy-free cakes, so that more people can enjoy something delicious and special without having to miss out.
Everything we make is made with a touch of Mauritian love. I can guarantee you that you’ve never experienced anything quite like it before!
My background as a primary school teacher has naturally influenced the direction of the business. I’ve always loved helping people learn, encouraging them and watching their confidence grow. That’s something I’m now bringing into our baking workshops.
We’re starting to introduce cake decorating workshops, and I’m really excited about this next chapter. It gives me the opportunity to combine my teaching experience with my love of baking, helping people learn new skills in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable environment.
I believe everyone can be creative, even if they don’t consider themselves a natural baker or cake decorator. Sometimes all it takes is someone to show you how, give you a little encouragement and let you have fun with it!
After a year of growing the business, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far. What started as a new adventure has become a way for me to share my heritage, my creativity and my love of teaching with others.
I truly hope our decorating classes will help you create something beautiful, learn a new skill and, most importantly, create those special moments of happiness with your loved ones.
