Join me, Bex, for this exciting four-week pottery course in Brighton and learn the in-depth art of pottery wheel throwing. You'll receive a warm welcome in my studio, where you'll be greeted with a cup of tea or coffee before I introduce you to the space and the tools you'll be using.
This comprehensive activity gives you the time to explore what goes on behind the scenes in a pottery studio. As the course progresses, you will use high-quality materials and learn a range of traditional techniques, such as:
  • Mastering how to use a throwing wheel and with the stages of the throwing technique.
  • Turning your thrown pieces.
  • An introduction to glazing and the theory of mixing a glaze.
  • Waxing and Dip Glazing your bisque fired pieces.
  • Finally, packing a kiln.
Don't worry if you're new to pottery; in your first two weeks, I will give you a full demonstration of how to use the wheel and the basic techniques needed to create your very own bowl. After the demonstration, it's your turn! With my guidance, you'll take turns on the wheel. As your confidence builds, you can go on to create your own mug or candle holder to match.
Before progressing onto learning all there is to know about glazing! Picking from soft yellow to deep blue, luscious green to chocolate brown, glazes for your pieces to be dipped into before firing. Examples of which will be provided on the day.
When you're finished, I will fire your wonderful creations in the kiln, and your pieces will be ready for collection in 2-3 weeks. If you prefer, they can be posted to you for a small additional fee.
What you'll get
By the end of your four week course and for a charge of £10, students will be able to keep up to eight of your wonderful creations, which then will be fired in your selected coloured glaze colour of choice after being glazed by yourself during the course.
You'll finish this course with a set of stunning, handmade pieces and a true understanding of the complete pottery process, from a lump of clay to a final glazed creation.

I am a trained ceramicist having previously studied Glass, Ceramics, Jewellery and Metalwork at the University for the Creative Arts. After graduating I began working in a pottery studio in Lewes where I developed my expertise and love for throwing. Having previously explored the depths of hand building at university.
My work is inspired by geological rocks and the natural processes that shape them. This influence is evident in the detailed textures, shapes and glazes I apply to my ceramics.
I am known for my friendly and outgoing nature. I love to teach as it allows me to enjoy meeting new people and helping them create their own pieces. I takes pride in seeing others happy with their work and the new as well as varied ideas students have brought.
In my studio, I offers guidance and support, making the creative process accessible to everyone, whether you're new to ceramics or want to improve your skills. Which has given me joy to make a difference in peoples lives for a short period, that my students didn't think previously possible using a creative means they haven't tried before.
