Pottery Throwing Taster Class

Fun on the wheel pottery throwing class for beginners!

75 mins Class size 1 to 2 guests       £100

Escape to the beautiful landscaped courtyard of an East Anglian farm for a morning or afternoon, as we learn the traditional art of on the wheel thrown ceramics. In this hands on and interactive class, ceramic artist Annabel Wightman will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided, step-by-step through the process of throwing on the wheel.
Learn and develop your throwing skills in a 1-2-1 lesson, or bring a friend and have a go together!
Annabel will show you the steps of throwing a pot on the potters wheel from start to finish. Learn about centering, opening out, pulling the walls, and cleaning up your pots. By the end of the session you will have a small collection of thrown pieces to be glazed and fired by us ready for you to collect and take home approx. 4 weeks later.
At the end of the class you will then have the opportunity to walk across the courtyard to The Mixing Shed Cafe for a light brunch and real roasters coffee, and then off to the Loaf Tin Bakery to buy a loaf of bread.
What you'll get
All materials and tools to make a fired and clear glazed pot (ready for you 4 weeks after the class is over).

Lucy went through every stage from centre-ing to pulling a cylinder (one of the hardest things) so effectively. It was friendly, relaxed, fun with simple explanations. The time just shot by. I'll be signing up for the six-week course.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jun 2024: We did the pottery class for our wedding anniversary with Annabel. She was amazing to learn from and was very kind and supportive. We were all kept very busy in a wonderful way and both Annabel and Lucy read the room perfectly and pitched it exactly right. Thank you so much for such a fun class. The cylinder is definitely the best thing I have ever made (with help!;))
  • 5/5 from Kerry Dudley, attended May 2024: My 20 year old daughter and I love pottery and so we decided to try a pottery throwing taster session together. Annabel was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and very patient! We used the wheel and we each made our own bespoke vessel with the gentle guidance of Annabel. It was a wonderful experience - creative, tactile and mindful and we’d like to do more!
  • 5/5 from Meisha Rudd, attended Apr 2024: Spent a lovely couple of hours in the Studio this morning learning the very basics of making a vessel. The setting is just beautiful and peaceful so a wonderful time to relax and just enjoy being creative. I was taught by 2 very friendly creators at different points during the session, They were both very encouraging and supportive and showed different techniques which was fab! I was just learning and chatting away with no pressure to get it right straight away. It was my absolute first time throwing on a wheel and had only done very basic primary school level clay work prior and I've left having made a nice item which I thoroughly enjoyed making. I honestly could have sat there all day, I found working with the clay quite relaxing and mindful almost meditative and I would definitely go again.
  • 5/5 from James Clark, attended Mar 2024: Fantastic class. Very fun and interactive. The teachers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Angela Bucksey, attended Mar 2024: Annabelle is a very talented potter and teacher - her instruction is easy to follow, makes sense and the results were frankly way above my expectations of my abilities! I can’t wait to the fired results. I had a great time and will be back for more. This was a birthday present from my husband and was great fun - definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to try out a new craft. The studio is light, bright, has ample parking and is easy to find. Thanks very much
