Welcome and Get Comfy

Welcome and Get Comfy

The day starts at 10am with a meet and greet, and an informal talk with videos and Q&A, and then a kneading and cutting demonstration for you to get a feel for working with the plastic.

Choose Your Colours

Choose Your Colours

After this, it’s time to choose the colours of recycled plastic that you’ll use to make your piece/s; we have prepared LDPE discs in a wide variety of colours, so there is plenty of choice! Once decided, we’ll take a break.

Layer and Marble

Layer and Marble

After lunch, the plastic will have melted and we’ll explore layering and marbling techniques (about 2 hours). Once you’re happy with the result, we’ll either press or hand-shape your pieces, depending on the product. A carving demonstration will also be available for those who hand-shape their piece!

Finish and Admire Your Work

Finish and Admire Your Work

When we’re all done (4-5pm depending on group size), if anyone wants to stick around for a chat, we’ll have various drink options waiting in the fridge, and we can raise a glass to all your hard work and wonderful creations!

Join us for a day of hands-on recycling at our studio with this plastic recycling workshop in Hove. You’ll melt waste plastic, marble your own colours, and create something unique to take home, all while exploring creative approaches to sustainability.
No experience is needed. This is a relaxed, supportive session where you’ll be guided through each step and encouraged to experiment with ideas.
What to expect:
  • Melt and reshape waste plastic into new forms.
  • Create your own marbled colour effects.
  • Make a piece of your choice, from coasters and vases to boards, candle holders, or sculptures.
  • Learn how traditional craft techniques can merge with modern materials.
  • Explore what sustainable design and materials mean in practice.
  • Work in a hands-on, creative studio environment.
  • Take part in a fun, practical day focused on rethinking waste.
Please note:
  • Pieces taken home on the day will have a natural edge; cutting and sanding can be done later for an additional fee.
  • Health and safety guidance will be provided before each process, with support throughout.
  • You won’t be liable for accidental damage unless caused by recklessness or negligence.
  • The workshop is not unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
  • Please let us know in advance if you have any access needs so arrangements can be considered.
  • Children under 16 are welcome to attend as observers with a parent/carer -- please inform us in advance.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own recycled plastic creation and a fresh perspective on how waste materials can be transformed into something both useful and beautiful.
What you'll get
  • All materials, tools, and personal protective equipment will be provided to make your unique recycled creation!
  • Tea, coffee and water will be provided throughout the day, as well as some homemade snacks (vegan and gluten free) to keep you going through the afternoon.

What to bring

We are Louise and Merl, Swedish sisters who have lived in the UK since we were little. We’ve always loved making things, and from a young age were taught to be resourceful, and to love and respect our environment.
Louise started experimenting with waste plastic in 2012 whilst at Brighton University, and started her studio in 2015, a year after graduating. She then spent two and a half years refining the processes and working on commissions, culminating in designing and building a large hydraulic press capable of producing sheets of recycled plastic for larger applications of the material.
Merl joined in 2017 after a huge tabletop project was undertaken, and with her also having an artistic background, as well as having worked in interiors, it couldn’t have been a better pairing. In early 2018, Weez & Merl was founded.
