Learn how to craft your own personalised Wide Envelope Crossbody Bag in this engaging leathercraft workshop. This activity introduces you to the art of working with high-quality British and Italian oak and vegetable-tanned leathers, creating a stylish and practical bag.
We'll guide you through each step of the process, from selecting your leather to assembling your finished pieces. You'll learn how to cut the leather, mark the leather for stitching, punch holes, saddle stitch, burnish edges, attach the hardware, create a bag strap and add a personal touch with foil embossing. You'll also have the opportunity to choose your preferred thread colour and brass or nickel fixings.
We understand that leathercraft might seem daunting, so we'll provide clear, step-by-step guidance, making the process accessible and enjoyable for complete beginners.
  • Select from a range of high-quality, chrome-free leathers.
  • Learn traditional saddlery techniques, including saddle stitching.
  • Personalise your items with foil embossing.
  • Assemble your Wide Envelope Crossbody Bag with your choice of thread and fixings.
By the end of this workshop, you'll have created a unique Wide Envelope Crossbody Bag set, each piece developing a beautiful patina over time, a testament to your craftsmanship. With a background in architecture, I’ve always been drawn to clean lines, simple geometries, and thoughtful design. While working in practice, I missed the hands-on aspects of making, which led me to explore various crafts—ultimately, leatherwork resonated with me the most. I was drawn to its timeless quality, the way it ages beautifully, and the satisfaction of crafting something by hand.
In my studio at Cockpit Studios, Deptford, I use traditional saddlery techniques like saddle stitching and hand burnishing to create durable, functional pieces. I work exclusively with oak-tanned and vegetable-tanned leather, artisanal materials that develop a rich patina over time, making each piece unique.
Teaching allows me to share this craft with others, and I love seeing the joy and satisfaction my students experience when they create something themselves. My workshops offer a hands-on introduction to leatherwork, where you’ll learn the basics and craft your own piece. My dedication to the craft has been recognised with the Leatherseller’s Award (2022-2025), and I’m excited to welcome you to this rewarding and tactile craft!
