Patchwork Sewing Class: Cartwheel

Craft a beautiful piece of textile art at this paper piecing quilting workshop in Stonehaven.

2 x 3 hours Class size 4     label £60

If you're an avid quilter looking for your next project, this class in beautiful Stonehaven is a brilliant way to learn some handy new skills and use up some of your fabric stash!

Hosted in a cosy studio space by an experienced local crafter, you'll be learning to make a gorgeous geometric pinwheel pattern using paper piecing. Paper piecing has you sewing your fabric onto a paper pattern backing, and is an accurate way of making patchwork with crisp, clean lines.

Over the course of two three-hour sessions, you'll be using this method to create a dazzling multicoloured pattern that you can incorporate into a larger quilt, or even hang on the wall as a piece of art in its own right. The first session will focus on the outer ring, which you'll bring home to work on in the two weeks between classes. Then you'll be focusing on the inner ring in the second session, as well as sharing some design ideas for how your stunning final piece will come together.

Whether you're coming along solo or bringing a few pals, you'll leave the course with your beautiful finished design, as well as some skills that you can carry forward into your next project.

Knowledge required
This is an intermediate level course, so some experience of needlework, quilting or patchwork is required. Feel free to get in touch if you need any advice.

What you'll get
All equipment to create a beautiful patchwork quilt project to take home with you.

What to bring
Bring your stash! We will be using all your scraps to complete the rings. Try to bring two complementary fabrics for each spike on the colour ring. You will need about the equivalent of a quarter of a metre of each colour. There are 18 spikes in all, 36 colours. Alternatively, you can repeat colours and bring along a half metre of each one. You will need 1.10m for background material for the centre of your quilt. You may need more depending on what size you decide on.

I'm Sandra, owner of Kilcruik Crafts. A small one-person operation, Kilcruik Crafts is a crafting shop and creative studio in the beautiful harbour town of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. I wanted to create a little haven to share my crafting experience, giving people the ideal space to chill out, improve their skills or learning new ones.

I have been crafting for over 50 years. I started with knitting and crochet as a child with my granny, and I learnt dressmaking from her best friend. Over the years I have taken up many different crafts, all of which I love. I also spent many years abroad and that has influenced my ideas. I decided to put my skills to use by starting up my own business so I can pass on my skills to anyone who wants to learn!

I love all the different crafts and love nothing more than to share this knowledge and love with others. Making things and sharing crafts with others has had a calming and beneficial effect on my life, and I can't wait to spread this joy with you!
