Dive into an afternoon of contemporary abstraction in this half-day workshop inspired by painter Gerhard Richter. This session focuses on Richter’s celebrated techniques for layering vibrant, contrasting colours without muddying your palette.
The day begins with a group discussion on how Richter builds texture, mood, and atmospheric depth. You will then experiment on a small scale using a rich mix of inks, acrylics, and oil pastels.
Using specialised tools like large brushes and rubber kidneys, you will learn to smear, scrape, and blend paint to create striking visual effects. Whether you choose to blend these techniques with figurative elements or dive into total abstraction, you will receive personalised guidance to support you in creating a beautiful, finished A3 artwork to take home.

I’ve been teaching for the past six years, working with people of all ages, and I truly love being part of a creative community. I started running classes from my studio in London three years ago, and have recently moved to Bristol where I’ve set up a new space in Bishopston.
What I care about most is supporting people to move through their barriers around making art. I know how vulnerable it can feel to create, especially if you’re not feeling confident, so I aim to offer a space that’s encouraging, open, and explorative. I teach a range of techniques to help everyone find their own creative voice, and with small groups of up to four students, there’s plenty of time for individual support and guidance.
Alongside teaching, I’m a contemporary emerging artist and have exhibited in galleries across the UK and in Spain. My practice spans sculpture, drawing, and painting, and I love sharing that breadth of knowledge with my students. I’ll always gently push you towards your full potential, while keeping a strong focus on the joy and playfulness of making.
I also co-host a podcast called The Healthy Artist, where we talk about building a positive, sustainable relationship with creativity in a world that often pulls us away from it. Alongside this, I mentor artists in developing their practice, rebuilding confidence, and reconnecting with the joy of creating, as well as hosting online painting clubs for both figurative and abstract artists.
