Spend a relaxed and inspiring day exploring the art of silver clay jewellery making in a small, friendly group, surrounded by beautiful surroundings. This immersive, in-person workshop is perfect for beginners and those looking to expand their creative skills, with plenty of individual guidance throughout the day.
Over the course of 6 hours, you will learn how to design and create 2–3 unique, finished jewellery pieces. The focus of the workshop is on working with organic forms and textures, drawing inspiration from nature. You’ll explore ways to incorporate elements such as leaves, flowers, shells, fossils, coral, and other natural surfaces to shape and imprint your designs, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Once the silver clay is fired, your jewellery pieces will be 999 Fine Silver, which is hallmark quality.
Two key techniques will be taught:
  • Applying silver clay paste directly onto natural materials such as leaves to capture their intricate details.
  • Creating your own moulds for pressing and imprinting textures into silver clay.
All tools and equipment are provided, including access to a kiln for firing and a polishing machine for finishing your work. Your materials are included in the course fee. A lunch break will be scheduled during this full-day course, so please bring a packed lunch.
This workshop offers a welcoming and creative environment where you can slow down, learn new skills, and leave with beautiful handmade jewellery to treasure.
Classes will take place at our new dedicated jewellery studio located in the heart of St Albans city centre. This is a lovely light, airy space with excellent facilities and parking in the city centre car parks only a few minutes' walk away.

FAQ

What workshops do you offer?
We run a variety of workshops throughout the year sharing jewellery making skills in fun and informative classes in the Hertfordshire area. Half day or full day workshops will focus on complimentary jewellery making techniques around working with silver clay, sterling silver and gold - shaping and texturing, adding embellishments such as gemstones, sea glass and pearls, polishing and finishing, and securing to a chain or findings so that your piece can be worn home.
Are classes suitable for beginners?
Yes, many classes are suitable for complete beginners (see class descriptions) and you will be guided through step by step how to make a piece of jewellery ready to take home with you. Good starter classes are the Introduction to Silver Clay and Silver Stacking Rings workshops - each of the classes last around 3 hours.
What age are classes suitable for?
Silver clay jewellery classes are suitable for ages 12 years and up. For silver-smithing classes e.g. stacking rings which involved soldering with a small handheld torch, we advise age 16+.

Silver Daisy Jewellery Studio

Hi, I’m Katy, the jeweller and founder behind Silver Daisy Jewellery Studio in the heart of St Albans.
I’ve been making jewellery for many years, and what started as a love of creating by hand has grown into a career designing, making and now teaching jewellery. There’s still something a little magical about taking a simple piece of silver and, using traditional tools and techniques, transforming it into something beautiful that can be worn and treasured for years.
My jewellery-making journey has included lots of learning along the way. I completed all three levels of Precious Metal Clay (PMC) certification in 2009 and have studied silversmithing at college as well as attending many specialist classes over the years. More recently, I completed both the Fine Jewellery Diploma and Advanced Jewellery Diploma with Jewellers Academy, developing my skills in traditional and fine jewellery-making techniques.
But one of the things I’ve discovered I enjoy most is sharing those skills with other people.
That led me to create Silver Daisy Jewellery Studio – my dedicated jewellery-making space in St Albans, where creativity, craftsmanship and connection come together. It’s a bright, welcoming and professionally equipped studio where I can introduce people to the wonderful world of jewellery making in a relaxed and friendly environment.
My workshops are genuinely hands-on. Depending on the class you choose, you might find yourself sawing, hammering, texturing, shaping, soldering and polishing silver, using many of the same traditional tools and techniques I use to make my own jewellery.
And you absolutely don’t need to have made jewellery before.
I love seeing people arrive telling me they’re “not creative” or wondering whether they’ll be able to do it, then watching their confidence grow as their piece begins to take shape. That moment at the end of a workshop when someone looks at what they’ve created and says, “I actually made this!” never gets old.
I also think the experience around the making matters. My classes are intentionally small and friendly, so there’s plenty of individual guidance and time to enjoy the process rather than feeling rushed. There’s always tea, coffee and some lovely biscuits too!
People come to the studio for all sorts of reasons – to try something they’ve always wanted to do, spend time with a friend or loved one, celebrate a birthday or hen party, or simply escape everyday life for a few hours and do something completely different.
For me, jewellery making is about much more than the finished piece. It’s about slowing down, working with your hands, learning a new skill and experiencing the satisfaction of turning raw materials into something that is uniquely yours.
I’d love to welcome you to my St Albans studio, introduce you to the craft I love, and help you experience that very special feeling of being able to say, “I made this.”
