I started making jewellery as a kid, making beaded earrings and selling them in my neighbor's shop.
In 2002, I moved to Seoul, South Korea, and stayed there for 3 years teaching English as a foreign language. During that time, I learned that the key to being a great teacher is being organized, lesson planning, and making the lessons fun! I was teaching babies (literally! The Koreans, like the Japanese, are very keen on education) to OAPs. By far the hardest age range to teach were teenagers, mainly because by the time they'd reached their teens, they had been intensely schooled for many years, plus, of course, the dreaded hormonal changes!
Fast forward to 2006, after caring for my father, who had had a stroke, for 2.5 years. When he passed, I was devastated. I was also grieving and discovered, in 2006, my love of jewellery. I attended an introductory course in jewellery at the local college in Stroud, which was my local town at the time, and just got hooked!
For the next 8 years, I worked on my craft and attended courses, taught myself how to make enameled jewellery, and worked on my jewellery-making skills. In 2014, I studied jewellery and object design in Sydney, Australia (where and when my profile pic was taken).
On returning to England, I sold my home and moved to Cornwall. I've been living here (largely) for the past 10 years, working on my craft and flipping houses! I also love carpentry—well, the making of things, really.
I've always been good with my hands, and I'm very empathic and therefore good with people. Or so I've been told. And like most creative people, I like bright shiny things, hence one of the many reasons I love making jewellery.
I am also quite spiritual and love working with colorful crystals. I studied astrology at the Faculty of Astrological Studies and have, over the years, taught myself tarot. I am very interested in the spiritual meaning of different stones.
I am in the process of selling my home and will soon become a member of the growing van life community. My intention is to take my jewellery making and teaching on the road. Maybe do some vlogging—not sure about that part.
