Held in a quiet, dedicated studio with a maximum of eight students, you'll receive plenty of individual guidance and hands-on help every step of the way. Through engaging presentations and example works, you'll get to grips with:
  • Oil materials – Understand the tools of the trade.
  • Colour theory – Master the art of mixing and working with different palettes.
  • Impressionist techniques – Learn how to capture light and movement.
  • Plein air painting – Explore the methods used for painting outdoors.
You're welcome to work from a curated selection of reference photos or bring along your own favourite photograph to spark your creativity. Everything you need is provided, from the paints and brushes to hot drinks and biscuits to keep you inspired. After the workshop, you'll even receive a helpful PDF guide to keep the momentum going at home.
By the time you've finished, you'll have gained the confidence to continue your artistic practice and will leave with a beautiful, handmade keepsake to show off on your wall.
Please note: Water-washable oil paints behave exactly like traditional oils but can be cleaned up easily with water. They contain fewer chemicals, meaning they have a much lower odour, are safer to use, and are better for the environment.

Q. I've been painting for years. Can I skip the basics?
A. I teach at all skill levels, and in a way which encourages development of skills and confidence for everyone. I don't run step-by-step workshops, but instead look at different approaches to art creation.
Q. What happens when I buy a course or workshop?
A. Initially you will receive a welcome email, with a follow up reminder nearer the date with arrival details.
Q. Do you tailor your courses and workshops to everyone?
A. Each course or workshop has a specific theme or medium, but everyone is encouraged to work in their own way. I will help out those who need it, and actively encourage those who don't.
Q. Can I bring my own materials?
A. Of course, but everything you need is supplied. We all have our own favourite pencils after all. I encourage you to bring your own specialist materials too, including iPads or tablets for digital working. No oil based materials can be used however.
Q. Can I get a refund before or during a course or workshop?
A. Although I cannot normally refund courses, I can reschedule your sessions if personal issues arise at my discretion.
Q. I want to display my work in a public gallery. Can your courses and workshops help me do that?
A. Yes. I have extensive knowledge on gallery exhibiting, and can show you how to approach them.
Q. Do you teach art history in your courses and workshops?
A. I can't cover all of art history in the time we have, but we touch on some of the artworks and artists that still have an influence today.

Tin Stanton - artful weasels owner and tutor
I studied art for four years at the University of the West of England in Bristol, gaining a First Class Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree and a Master's Degree with Distinction in 2023.
My passion for arts and teaching has led to the creation of artful weasels, delivering art workshops and courses to adults in Bristol in a fun, relaxed way that allows students to find their own way of learning new skills while learning fundamental art processes such as colour theory, composition, painting practices, printing, and much more.
As an active artist, my artwork has been seen in many national and international galleries, including the Royal Academy and Oxo Galleries in London.
My acrylic, pencil, digital realism, and landscape work has led to being interviewed by the Royal Academy on climate change, and even a spot on TV's Sky Landscape Artist of the Year.
