Enjoy a gentle introduction to oils at this oil painting class in Derby.

2.5 hours Location Derby Class size 1 to 6 guests   £30
Derby Activities
Join me for a wonderful two-hour painting class, where I'll help you create a beautiful painting in the famous Bob Ross style. As a certified Bob Ross instructor in both oils and acrylics since 2011, I can guarantee that anyone, from ages 6 to 92, can finish a painting in just one session!
All materials are provided for you, including canvases, paints, brushes, and aprons, so you just need to bring yourself and a smile.
Each class runs for two hours, during which you’ll complete your own beautiful painting. We create a different painting each week, so there’s always something new to learn and enjoy. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve.
You’ll leave the studio feeling accomplished and inspired, taking home your very own finished masterpiece to be proud of.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 6 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • 5/5 from Emma Johnson, attended Sep 2026: I booked this painting class as a surprise birthday present for a friend and she was so excited when she found out what we were doing. Patrick was very knowledgeable and patient, with a very kind manner in explaining what to do and answered our questions well. He was also very well organised and kept us in supply of clean paintbrushes, meaning we could just focus on our paintings. We all had a really great time and would definitely recommend!
  • 5/5 from Saira Bahia, attended Sep 2026: I had a great class with Patrick! He is a calm and patient teacher, friendly and happy to answer any questions I had about oil paints. I booked on as I have always been a bit intimidated by using oil paints but Patrick alleviated all of this and it has motivated me to do more! Great class, amazing value and a wonderful teacher - definitely recommend!

  • 5/5 from Emily Smalley, attended May 2026: I've painted in the past but never with oil paints which is why I booked on. Patrick was very friendly and attentive, went at a pace I was comfortable with and I learned how to use tools I'd never used before!
  • 5/5 from Preethy Christopher, attended Apr 2026: Patrick was amazing from the get go! He made us feel so comfortable and he’s such a professional. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. We had such a great time and had such a laugh! Thank you Patrick!
  • 5/5 from Benjamin Walker, attended Mar 2026: Very fun, lovely teacher, great coffee, now i have a painting!!
  • 5/5 from Kathryn Jackson, attended Mar 2026: What a fantastic morning we have had with Patrick. Patrick is very welcoming and friendly, he put us at ease straight away as we hadn’t painted before. We began painting straight away with Patrick’s careful support - helping us where we needed it and very patient. We were shown some techniques including how to mix certain colours, different ways to use the paint brush and palette knife and came away with pictures that we can’t believe we have done ourselves. Thanks again Patrick - we would love to do this again and would recommend to anyone (any age) with an interest in painting whether you have the skills or not.
  • 5/5 from Julie Wood, attended Feb 2026: Patrick was a lovely teacher and explained what to do clearly We had a great time and are very proud of our paintings

The atmosphere was great and really relaxed, and the instructor was so friendly and knowledgeable. Patrick made me feel welcome right from the start. I’d definitely recommend this class to anyone wanting to give oil painting a try! I’m so happy with my end project. I will be doing another class next month for sure!
  • 5/5 from Sam Woodford, attended Jan 2026: Patrick was very skilled in Bob Ross, guiding me and my wife through a painting in 2 hrs! I am a complete novice so, to get a painting like this is a testament to Patrick.

Hello everyone,
My name is Patrick, and I’ve been a certified Bob Ross instructor in oil painting since 2011. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching students ranging in age from, 6 to 92, and I truly believe that anyone can complete a painting in just one day - no experience necessary!
All materials are included in the cost of the session, so you just need to show up ready to create.
I run classes from my home studio in Derby, and for larger groups, I can also teach at a local community centre.
Looking forward to painting with you soon!
