Spend a full day learning the art of natural dyeing at this plant-based dye workshop in Cardiff – a hands-on, beginner-friendly session designed to give you the skills and confidence to carry on experimenting at home.
Working with cotton, hemp, linen, and other protein fibres, you'll discover how to prepare your materials, use mordants to fix colour, and work with professional natural dyes to achieve a range of beautiful shades and tones. Along the way, you'll build a real understanding of how different fibres interact with plant dyes – the kind of knowledge that makes every future project feel more intentional.
All materials are provided, and with a maximum of eight students per session, there's plenty of space for hands-on guidance throughout the day. Whether you're a knitter or textile artist looking to add a new technique to your practice, or simply someone drawn to the idea of sustainable, plant-based making, you'll feel right at home.
You'll leave with your own dyed samples, a set of transferable skills, and more than enough inspiration to set up your own natural dye practice.

Natural Traditional Handmade
Natural and sustainable is at the heart of all TirGlas activities from wool blankets, throws and hand dyed yarn to natural dye workshops. Whilst TirGlas has evolved and grown into new areas over the years, our Mission, NATURAL TRADITIONAL HANDMADE remains. This is our journey and voyage of discovery in traditional Heritage crafts, which includes weaving, wool – the journey of the fleece, yarn and the diverse use of natural dyes.
TirGlas “Green Land” and the Logo
All of my working life has been in the Finance sector. I have attended natural dye workshops in the UK and as far as North America. These various week-long or more events were rewarding both in knowledge and meeting new like-minded people who have become friends. I work with natural fibres such as wool, silk, cotton, linen, hemp. I use the traditional dyes of madder, indigo, cutch, lac, logwood etc. and natural mordants, modifiers and tannins. Although I no longer weave myself our two eldest Granddaughters are old enough and would like to learn. They have already started on their Natural Dye journey, hopefully a Heritage legacy will go on from TirGlas.
