Full Instructions and Guidance Provided
Settle in and get ready to create. Jacky will introduce you to cutting gorgeous old china with wheeled nippers.
Choose Your Materials
There'll be lots of old china for you to choose from -- you can also bring your own! Plates and cups will be available -- learn how to cut a curved cup to create flat pieces for your mirror frame.
Practice Cutting and Work on Your Design
Once you've selected your plates or cups, you'll be ready to start cutting! Don't worry if you're new to mosaics -- plenty of guidance will be on hand.
Apply Your Mosaic Pieces and See Your Design Come to Life
You'll use 'tacky glue' to apply your china pieces, taking inspiration from other workshop participants. Watch your piece come to life, ready for grouting!
Get Grouting
Jacky will demo how to grout, and then it's your turn. This is the messy bit! Get hands-on and learn a fun new skill, with help if you need it.
Take Away Your Unique Mosaic Mirror
Once grouted, you'll carefully wrap your mirror, ready to take home for final drying and polishing.
Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 4 guests to run. I discovered mosaic making over 20 years ago & have been hooked ever since! I find it calming, mindful and great for my wellbeing. I started teaching around 4 years ago, when I moved to Edinburgh (I'm now back in gorgeous Devon), and love sharing the joy of this great craft with others. I've taught students to make mosaic hearts, coasters, mirrors, plant pots, Christmas decorations, wreaths, butterflies.... My students tell me how relaxing and enjoyable they find my workshops - wellbeing through creativity is close to my heart. I make my practice as sustainable as possible, and particularly like workshops which involve using old china. Many of my students bring in precious broken cups, or old dishes they want to re-invent. It's so rewarding seeing something important given a new lease of life. I've exhibited my work in Edinburgh as part of an arts collective, sold many items and raised money for the St Columbas Hospice through the sale of mosaic pieces.
