You will be using charcoal, pastels, ink, paint, collage, simple printmaking, and more, with an aim to use more than one of these on the art pieces you create. The tutor will give some demonstrations, a lot of guidance if you need it, exercises, and a chance to create your own project towards the end of the course. The aim is to discover different ways of making art. All abilities are welcome, including absolute beginners.
What you'll get
The tutor will provide the paper.
Knowledge required
All abilities are welcome, including absolute beginners.
What to bring
Please bring along 2 or 3 brushes, a white plate or palette, and acrylic paint for printmaking, cheap student quality is fine: lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, white, raw or burnt umber, cadmium red, crimson, ultramarine blue, cyan or phthalo blue. If you have a set of acrylic paints, bring those.
It would be helpful for students to be aware that they should collect materials themselves, such as found objects, photographs, scraps, etc., so they have plenty of scope for their projects. The real essentials are acrylic paint and brushes.

This class series runs over 10 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.

The Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre providing a variety of part-time day and evening courses and workshops for over 18's. The Folk House provides a welcoming environment in which to explore your creativity and learn new skills.
We provide courses and workshops that engage the local community. The cafe provides fantastic organic food and a space to get together before and after classes. It is also open to the public and is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxed and friendly place in Bristol city centre. Live music and festivals happen throughout the year, as well as markets, events and exhibitions.
The Bristol Folk House is part of a charity and we receive no funding from the government, the city council or any other institution and our income is wholly derived from course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising events.
The centre began in the 1870's with the aim of supporting access to education in the community. The first programme of activities was produced for the academic year in 1920-1921.
