Step into the world of creative metalsmithing with this hands-on workshop in Sheffield. You’ll use folding, cutting, hammering, and heat to transform simple sheets of copper and brass into textured, organic forms like leaves -- or let your imagination guide you to something entirely your own!
Don't worry if you've never tried metalsmithing before -- this session is beginner-friendly, and open to all ages (children must be supervised). It’s a chance to explore metal in a relaxed environment, experiment with form and texture, and leave with a unique creation to treasure.
What to expect:
  • Learn the basics of fold forming, a sculptural metalsmithing process.
  • Use thin sheets of copper and brass to fold, cut, and shape textured designs.
  • Add colour and depth by oxidising your finished piece.
  • Choose to turn your design into jewellery with earring hooks, or a decoration with ribbon.
  • A fun, hands-on creative experience, perfect for beginners!
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own finished metal artwork and the satisfaction of having tried something completely new.
What you'll get
  • An immersive introduction to metalsmithing.
  • All materials provided.

For Morvarid, working with metal is both a source of inner peace and self-discovery. She finds it fascinating to see how the movement of her body translates into the movement of the material, creating a unique collaboration between maker and metal. With a passion for sharing this experience, she invites students to explore silversmithing, discovering creativity, mindfulness, and joy while making their own piece to take home.
Morvarid is an Iranian interdisciplinary metal artist based in the UK. She has exhibited internationally and received awards including the Silver Fellowship at Yorkshire Artspace, a Master’s in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art supported by the Behrens Foundation Bursary, and the Jane Goodman Award during her residency at Bishopland Educational Trust.
