Create a bold, colourful banner in Newport that’s completely unique to you!

Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 6 to 20
£45 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Whether you want to celebrate equality, champion kindness, share a powerful message, or simply make something that makes you smile, you’ll design and create a fabric banner featuring a slogan that’s meaningful to you.
Perfect for beginners! Basic sewing skills are helpful but absolutely not essential. If you can thread a needle (or are happy for me to help!), you’ll be able to create something you’ll be proud of.
You’ll choose from a gorgeous selection of colourful fabrics, trims, pom-poms, and embellishments before planning your design and bringing it to life using appliqué and simple sewing techniques. I’ll guide you through each step, sharing plenty of tips and tricks along the way, and with a maximum of just 10 people, there’s lots of time for individual help and encouragement.
No two banners are ever the same, so you’ll leave with a joyful piece of textile art that’s perfect for hanging at home or giving as a gift.

Hi, I’m Kath – a designer, maker and creative tutor with over 25 years of experience teaching creative workshops.
I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. As a child I was always drawing, sewing, painting or inventing new projects, and that love of creativity eventually led me to study Contemporary Textile Practice at university before spending 20 years working in the greetings industry.
Today, alongside teaching, I run Kiwi and Rhubarb, where I design colourful statement jewellery using rescued acrylic that would otherwise go to landfill. I love giving materials a second life and creating bold, joyful pieces that help people express their individuality.
Over the years I’ve taught workshops for Hobbycraft, independent craft shops, workplaces, youth groups and hen parties, welcoming everyone from complete beginners to confident crafters. I’ve also worked with Hobbycraft’s marketing team, creating step-by-step craft projects for their website, as well as handmade pieces for in-store displays and promotional photography.
I’m endlessly curious about creativity and love exploring new techniques, from jewellery making and embroidery to flower pressing, air-dry clay, Cricut projects, sewing, paper cutting and free-motion embroidery. There’s always something new to discover, and that’s one of the things I love most about being creative.
Creativity has shaped my career for over 30 years, but my favourite part has always been inspiring other people to discover just how creative they can be. My workshops are relaxed, friendly and full of encouragement. You don’t need any experience—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to have a go! Whether you’re coming on your own, with friends or celebrating a special occasion, I’ll guide you every step of the way so you can relax, enjoy the process and leave with something you’re genuinely proud of.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone surprise themselves with what they can create.
I can’t wait to welcome you to a workshop and create something wonderful together!
