About the tutor:
Martin Laya is an artist-illustrator working under the artist name of Unfamiliar Spirits. Their work utilises a range of traditional techniques such as printmaking and watercolour, as well as delving into other fields, including bookbinding and paper marbling. These techniques often find a common ground in the projects they create, combining various traditional handmade processes within their work.
Since graduating, their work has been featured in exhibitions in the UK and Spain, as well as publishing works as an illustrator for books and magazines. Martin has taught art courses and workshops in various settings, sharing their knowledge and cultivating enthusiasm towards hands-on practise-based learning. Most recently they have created Tarot and Oracle decks, which focus on incorporating traditional techniques in their construction.
