Life Drawing with Printmaking

This workshop will introduce methods of combining drawing techniques with traditional printmaking methods. The session is suitable for beginners in both life drawing and printmaking techniques, as you will be given tuition in both. You will be guided to visually represent the life model in experimental ways.We will be practising drypoint etching, which is a form of intaglio printmaking that involves scoring directly into the printing plate by hand using a sharp tool. When a line is made in this way, the material kicks up a burr around it, which holds ink. This results in a line with a velvety, rich characteristic.Drawing from the model, the image will be scratched into the surface of the plastic plate. As the plate itself is transparent, a pre-made drawing can be used as a guide. Once the plate is etched, you will be shown how to ink up using water-based prints and print onto high-quality paper using a traditional etching press.
