Hammering in the Initial Holes

Here I am hammering the holes ready to then be worked with an awl. Once they are worked well (and less prone to 'healing') You will be ready to use the stitching pony!

Using a Stitching Pony

Using a Stitching Pony

It can be hard to start with, and to get a rhythm going! But soon you will be stitching with quality waxed thread using the pony clamped (ideal for young learners) or sitting with it between your legs (easier for adults, and more traditional). You will be using a double needle stitching technique.

Make a lovely leather pouch, tag, or even a glasses case in this small, supportive leatherworking class in Aldershot, hosted in a calm studio environment. This workshop is a wonderful way to switch off for three to four hours while you discover the tactile world of sustainable crafts.
You'll start by discussing the leather-making process and exploring different types of high-quality, sustainable hides. If you prefer, there’s a vegan leather option available too, as the team at Hygge-Hugs believes art should be accessible to everyone. With plenty of direct support and expert advice in a small group setting, you’ll learn how to cut, hammer, awl, and stitch your piece before finishing it off with a professional popper. If the sun is shining, the studio doors are opened wide to let the light in while you enjoy unlimited tea, coffee, and herbal blends throughout the day.
This low-pressure experience is designed to be inclusive and welcoming, with a particular focus on supporting mental health and neurodiversity. If you're looking for a family activity, it's also available as a parent and child workshop, where kids from age eight can get hands-on and creative. You'll leave with a newfound sense of confidence and a beautiful, handmade keepsake to show off at home.
Please note: If you would like to arrange a session at a specific time for a particular group, the teachers are happy to help and invite you to get in touch.
What you'll get
A completed glasses case or pouch to take home.

It took a heart issue to get here - now we love it with all our heart!
We live on the Aldershot-Farnham border with classes based in our home studio, or container studio in Makers' Yard or larger courses and events at gallery venues locally. Bev was a headteacher until 2022, when a heart issue (now resolved) contributed to her early retirement whilst still in her late 40s. She had always continued to craft, and gain historical artisan craft certifications on the side of her teaching career, as well as creating illustrations for books and card companies - but she now felt this was the time to commit fully.
We hold various well-being and coaching certifications and we love exploring positive mental heath with clients through expressive and creative arts; painting, clay work, crafting, poetry, journaling and performance as well as teaching. We are solution-focussed coaches also.
Bev has been a teacher (QTS) since 1998, and was a headteacher for 16 years before retiring from the profession. She still enjoys working with schools through workshops and events, as well as supporting children, as well as adults, through confidence coaching. She also holds a Christian Coaching certification and enjoys collaborating with other Christian artists to lead workshops on faith-based art too.
She takes commissions alongside surface design and illustration work. As a mixed-media artist she often combines 3D elements, or different media. She is able to teach a variety of crafted elements associated with Waldorf and Nordic education, and historical crafts too, such as whittling, leather craft, printing, silk, felt craft, quilling and needlework. She also enjoys the privilege of working with families through wedding day art and invitations, 'miniature worlds' to celebrate special events and memory art to celebrate the life of a loved one.
James works in electrical project managing but also creates beautiful objects such as lamps, tables and bars from reclaimed and re-purposed objects. They both have a love of retro design especially Victoriana and 1920s, 30s and 50s.
They have both travelled extensively through Nordic countries and try to create elements of calm, cosy hygge in their art, classes and work. Hygge has become an important philosophy in their lives and they have taken time out to travel, home educate and cherish a simpler, calmer existence at various points.
