  £75 - £100 (£100 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £80/guest for 2 guests, £75/guest for 3 guests)

This is a half-day introduction to the fascinating world of flame working glass, to create your very own masterpieces to take home.
To begin, we will use an oxy-propane lampwork torch to explore flame working. We will guide you to make several styles of stringers, thin strands of glass used for decoration later, and twists while you become accustomed to working with a flame.
We will then move on to make a number of glass beads and charms in several different styles.
Don't worry if you're new to working with glass – we will provide step-by-step instruction to guide you and demonstrate each step first to ensure you feel confident and inspired throughout the activity. You'll be amazed at how quickly you pick up the techniques and start creating your own unique design.

The morning flew by, and could have stayed all day! We're both really proud of our creations!
  • 5/5 from Benjamin Martinez Perez, attended Jul 2026: Excellent workshop! From the beginning of the session, we were welcomed and introduced to an exciting and interesting experience. The possibilities with so many different colours are endless, and it was fascinating to see how the glass transformed under the flame. • 5/5 from Karan Griffinwood, attended Feb 2026: Ruth was lovely and very informative and obviously really enjoyed passing on her knowledge. Being total novices it took a little time to start to feel the movement of the glass but mesmerising and such fun to do. A brilliant morning
  • 5/5 from Craig Bostock, attended Oct 2025: Everything was clearly explained and the process was good. There was time to do the planned practice and create a few experiments at the end
  • 5/5 from Andrew Bailey, attended May 2025: I booked a half day session for my wife's birthday, to try something new and different. Ruth was iexcellent, very patient and she demonstrated and explained every step really well. She's very passionate about working with glass, and this shows in the way she teaches. Within half an hour, both myself and my wife had made our first glass beads, and we then moved on to adding colour and patterns. It was a great few hours, a combination of educational and practical. Plus in a week or so we should receive everything that we'd made.
  • 5/5 from Henry Greer, attended May 2025: Really nice teacher. Very clear they had a good understanding of the subject, very nice, kind, taught very well. I never felt out of my depth and I ended up with some very nice glass beads at the end of it. I would recommend if someone thinks this may be for them, or just want to get something different!

Ruth and Andy Harrison are full time self-taught glass artists based in Burton-On-Trent.
Lampworking and fusing began as a hobby, quickly became an addiction followed shortly after by us selling our business and creating our own studio to work with glass full time.
Glass is an obsession that satisfies us artistically as well as suiting our engineering backgrounds, melting various glass colours and cooling them to room temperature while instilling strength and durability requires a scientific approach as well as an artistic one. We are constantly inspired by the never ending palette of colour available to us and seeking the unexpected reactions that occur between them.
We now teach to pass on our addiction to others!
