Knitting School's Claire Newberry is a part-time lecturer at Nottingham Trent University's world-renowned BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear course. She also lectures at DeMontfort University's BA (Hons) Textile Design course.

Claire designs knitwear concepts for the fashion knitwear industry and sells to top fashion houses around the world. Claire has more than 30 years of experience in the knitwear industry and 25 years of experience working as an educator.

Claire uses all of this knowledge and expertise to run her online and in-person courses from her UK studio, teaching domestic knitting machinery including Knitmaster, Silver Reed, Passap and DesignaKnit 8 and 9.

If you're a beginner, Claire can help you with sketchbook, portfolio and practical demonstrations on all machinery housed in her studio. If you are industry-based, Claire covers Dubied industrial hand flat and Shima Seiki Apex 3 Design software.

Today I had a machine knitting class with Claire Newberry at her knitting studio in Northampton. The studio is equipped with different types of knitting machines -domestic and industrial, all types of yarns and several samples of knitted designs. I learnt to use the Silver Reed knitting machine i.e casting on, cable stitch, rubbing using a single bed, using punch cards, shaping (increasing and decreasing) and casting off. I took home the sample I knitted as well as other samples I liked. Claire is a brilliant teacher. She provided me with information that I needed to choose the machine that meets my needs. Lesson was definitely valuable for money.
